Kap’s Golden Moments Part 1

Between the 2 of us, si Kap ang talagang pala-kaibigan. Even in high school, sya yung popular athlete, ako yung wallflower na walang kaibigan at nilalangaw nalang sa isang tabi, lol. So for his 50th, I suggested we celebrate with a bang kasi nga naman milestone, at madami siyang friends na pupuno ng mga upuan.

#RealMenStayFaithful <3 The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother. Nothing can bring a real sense of security into the home except true love. Our kids are confident & assured because they see how much Kap loves me, and how much he values our family. Thank you my Honey. <3

He has SO MANY friends. Meron sayang basketball group, may tennis group, may badminton group. Merong college group, may high school group, may iba-ibang Alabang group. At meron pang kung anu-anong groups in between. Pwedeng mag-Mayor itong mahal ko. So I suggested a big party like the one he had when he turned 40 a decade ago.

Kaso, nung 40th party nya, he didn’t get to enjoy much kasi nga sumobra naman ang pagiging social butterfly. He had to flit from one table to the next. Na-stress si Kap my Kap! ;P

So he countered na several small parties instead of a one-time-big-time affair. Huwaw, this will certainly put my hosting skills to the test. Hong domeh kong iso-social climb mga atey! I immediately got to work.

Just a brief backgrounder, even before Neil’s Kitchen became a popular restaurant here in the south, I already patronized the home-based catering service of Neil Ramos. I met Neil & Michelle in school. Our firstborns went to the same pre-school. I can honestly say that they make THE BEST roast turkey & roast beef. Tuwing nalang may okasyon, tatawag ako: “Michi please send over roast turkey & roast beef” ang litanya ko. And our guests would always leave with a smile (and a little bit of drool on their chin). So it was a no-brainer that Michelle was my #1 go-to for Kap’s get-togethers.

Family favorites from Neil’s Kitchen‘s catering menu: Roast Beef (2,800/kilo minimum of 4 kilos); Roast Turkey (795/kilo minimum of 7 kilos), and Baked Salmon 2,995. <3

Kap & I sat down & ironed out the details. Sya ang client, ako ang party planer. 😛 He gave the dates, the names of the people he wanted to invite, and left the rest of the details to me. Since I cannot think of anything to give him na for his birthday, sabi ko labor of love nalang. Ako na ang magpu-punong abala.

For his first celebration, he wanted a simple meryenda salo-salo with his seniors basketball group. “Sweetheart, wag masyadong mabigat kasi matatanda na ang mga kalaro ko. Baka hindi na matunawan. Meryenda lang pagtapos naming maglaro.” For short, reading between the lines, NO FANFARE. Okay then. I can do simple.

He’s been playing with the same group of people since time immemorial. May konting dagdag-bawas lang. 😉

Boys will be boys. Paper plates lang daw at plastic utensils for the meryenda salo-salo. I put my foot down though when he said huwag nang mag-table cloth. Barbarians! 😛

Since the guys will be eating in between games, Kap warned me to keep it light. Yung pwede daw na pa-subo-subo lang. So finger foods like the Thai Spring Rolls (I got 2 orders of each) 1295 x 2, Crab Cakes 1295 x 2, Pork Belly in Tortilla Wrap 1295 x 2, at syempre naman, dahil dapat may pang long life, Pad Thai 1295 x 2. A little over 10k for a stress-free handa. Approve ni Kap! \m/

With the esteemed Barangay Captain of AAV, kuya Ruben Baes. And Kap’s long time idol, kuya Mike Tensuan (remember, he ran for kuya Mike’s ALAGA ticket?)

The seniors basketball group. Mga sabay-sabay na silang nagsipag-tandaan hahaha!

For his second celebration, I had to do a throwback. I contacted his high school barkada. In spite of their hectic sked & somewhat great distance to our Alabang home (puro mga taga Kyusi at Manila sila), they were so nice to accommodate my invitation. I think this was Kap’s 50th birthday highlight kasi he really missed his oldest & dearest friends big time. I was happy to be an instrument to his delight! <3 Syempre naman, I had to bring out the big guns for the mini-reunion. Miiiiiich!!! Saklolooooo!

Sing with me.. “High school life oh my high school life, every memory, kay ganda. High school days oh my high school days were exciting, kay saya” (Si Kap lang ang masaya lol).

What I ordered: 5 kilos US Black Angus Ribeye Roast Beef 14,000 (2,800/kilo minimum of 4 kilos); 7 lbs. Roast Turkey 5,565 (795/kilo minimum of 7 kilos), Baked Salmon 2,995. Plus 2 orders each of California roll (1,195 x 2) & Seafood Aglio Olio Pasta (1,495 x 2) & an order of Tiramisu in a tub 1,195. Total came up to almost 30k. Still not bad for a hassle-free evening & sumptuous food enjoyed by everyone. <3

Kap went back THREE times, either nagutom sa excitement, or nasarapan lang talaga. ;)) I say BOTH!

“High school love my one high school love, not infatuation or crush. Tunay ‘to s’ya ang buhay ko, di n’yo lang alam ako’y nagba-blush.” At syempre pa, ang bunga ng high school love.. the giblings! ;))

On his actual birthday, syempre naman hindi ako pumayag ng wala kaming one-on-one action. 😉 We had a simple dimsum lunch date before finally meeting up with the giblings for dinner. I always enjoy QT with my husband. 32 years & we still never run out of things to say to each other. I always look forward to his animated kwentos.

One of Kap’s fave dimsum is the adidas. Diring-diri talaga ako jan but he loves it so I just try not to look! 😛 Btw, Oriental Palace South has a 20% discount promo from 2-5 pm daily. We got there at around 1:30 na. @_@ 1:32 I was happily eating my dimsum. #paraparaan

Our restaurant of choice was Escolta in Peninsula Manila for Kap’s birthday dinner with the fam. Not for anything else except mage-expire na ang discount card ko, HAHAHAHAHA! 😛 Sayang din ang 50% off diba? From 2,600++/person naging 1,300++/person nalang. Bet!

Every child’s first superhero is their father, and it was the same for ours. For the giblings, Kap is Superman and Batman combined. <3

Personally, I’ve never been impressed with Escolta’s minimal spread. You’ll know when I’m happy with the buffet, nakaka-10 na plato ako hehe. I really find this table d’hôte lacking, basic lang ang sine-serve. But for the discounted price of 1.5k/person, I guess pwede na.

Happy birthday to my best friend & my staunchest supporter. I am who I am because of you.  And no matter what happens in the future, everyday we are together is the greatest day of my life. If I know what love is, it is because of you. :-*

You guys are every reason, every hope and every dream I’ve ever had. This is LIFE made more beautiful. #BLESSED

Susunod, the rest of his birthday shenanigans. Abangan! :-*
