Day 19 – LA (01/08)

A long, long time ago, back when I used to play badminton at our courts in Las Piñas, there’s this couple whom I’ve take quite a great liking to. Actually pati si Kap, which is rare. Or ako yung may kaibigan (uuuuy meron daw), tapos saling kit naman sya. But with spouses Julie & Jong, we had a friend each –at pareho pa naming love. Terno kami, ang saya saya! ;))

No matter the distance, true friends will always be true friends. After so many years apart, when we got back together again, it’s as if it were just yesterday & we took off right where we left.

Around 8 years or so ago, Jong migrated to the U.S. to try out a different luck in life. Then his wife Julie & their kids followed suit after a couple of years. We lost contact after, alam nyo naman ang buhay America. Time is gold & kayod sila to the max, expecially since the family was starting all over again in a new land.

After they left, I stopped playing badminton. Nawalan ako ng gana kasi ba naman after every game, we would quickly shower, then eat out & talk until the wee hours of the morning. Three times a week yan walang paltos, so masyado talaga akong na-attach sa kanila. I was very sad when they left, and going to the badminton courts brought feeling of longings, kaya tumigil na rin ako ng punta.
When I learned that we were U.S. bound last 2018, I searched & searched for this elusive couple online but I couldn’t find them, huhu.
Then I said to myself, ah, yung mga anak sigurado active sa social media (altho they were still young ‘uns when the family migrated.
I took my chance & added the 2 girls. The eldest accepted my friend request immediately & I happily messaged her away. ;))
Finally, I made contact! I was so very excited to see our dear friends again. Thankfully, Linda –este Ate, gave us a whole day to spend with Julie. She adjusted our itinerary & cleared one day for the meet up.

At first, I thought Julie was only able to give me 3 hours of her day (mahal ang oras nya since she’s paid by the hour). It was such a pleasant surprise when she sprang the news during lunch that she moved around her schedule so we can spend the whole day together. I was beyond happy!! <3

Julie was following my IG stories so she knew the fam favored Chinese food. Tama naaa, sobra naaa, ayoko naaaaaa. @_@ So she took us instead to this popular korean resto, GEN Korean BBQ House near her house in Torrance. As of this writing though, nagbukas na sa atin, meron na ito sa ‘Pinas. When we visit GEN Manila in the near future, I will only have fond & happy memories of our lunch in LA with Julie. <3

Julie knows we are BIG eaters, so this resto that offered unlimited meats satisfied our tummies & souls hehe. We must’ve stayed here for 3 whole hours, alternating between lamon & non-stop chika. ;))

For the whole duration of our day, I never left her side. Iniwan ko talaga sila Kap at kay Julie ako nakisakay while she took us grocery shopping at Costco for our L.A. pad, The Grove, and finally, Santa Monica Pier..

Costco

Akala mo mawawala! ;)) Oh how I have missed her so. Btw, Costco is an American multinational corporation which operates a chain of membership-only warehouse clubs. Parang S&R/Landers sa atin. We were able to buy some necessities for the duration of our stay in LA.

The Grove

Idinaan din kami nila Julie dito saglit para sa susunod, alam na daw namin ang pagpuntaThe Grove is Los Angeles’ favorite shopping, dining, and lifestyle destination. The girls knew it wasn’t that kind of day today, so they just took note of the stores they wanted to check out the next time we came. Thank you for being so patient & understanding, kids. You could have gone off on your own & left us today, but you guys stuck around coz you knew these people are important to us & spending time with them made us happy. #grateful

Santa Monica Pier/Pacific Park

The Santa Monica Pier is a large double-jointed pier (with Pacific Park for amusement rides & attractions) at the foot of Colorado Avenue in Santa Monica, California. With an iconic entrance, the pier is popular with residents and visitors as a landmark that is over 100 years old. Julie & her daughter Trish took us here even though it was a bit of a drive. All girls lang kami dito kasi Kap & Babyson checked out a tennis store in the area, but they quickly followed suit.

Nakakatuwa at nakakaaliw dito sobra. This huge cherry funnel cake caught our eye. Actually, busog pa talaga kami from our long lunch, but this baby is definitely NOT to be missed. Ang saraaaap! <3

Mabilis naubos ang araw namin, pretty soon it was nightfall & almost the end of our day with Julie. :'((

Buti nalang I have Kap to always steady my moods & lift my spirits. He knows how to cheer me up when I start feeling melancholy. How nice to have a husband who is also your best friend. <3

Jong had a tight ship to commandeer & was only able to get away for dinner, but it was time much appreciated by Kap & I. Sobrang touched kami that Julie & Jong made time for us and treated us not once, BUT TWICE pa. 😛 Nakalusot!

Dahil nga sabi ko pahinga muna sa Chinese food, Jong suggested we meet up & have dinner at Boiling Crab. The Boiling Crab offers cajun seafood cooked per pound, perfect for this chilli day! Yehey!

Dearest Julie & Jong, we will NEVER forget & forsake our friendship. Hindi man kami madami makipag-kaibigan, those we have, we really hold dear to our hearts. We will always have such fond memories of the two of you. Fate forced us apart, but fate also brought us back together.

No matter how far we get from each other, the feelings in our hearts will remain the same. Thank you for the time that you gave us, and the love that you made us feel.

10 years naman ang visa namin hehe. Malay nyo, taon-taon mabisita namin kayo?
Sabi nga ni Aristotle, there are 3 kinds of friends you meet in life. I’m happy to claim that ours has, and always will be, the 3rd kind. <3
  • Friendships of utility are those where people are on friendly terms mainly due to the benefits each brings to the table. Business partners, colleagues, and schoolmates are examples.
  • Friendships of pleasure are those where people find each other because of the enjoyment it brings. People hanging out due to fitting hobbies, common interest, and fishing buddies are examples.
  • Friendships of the good, are most important as among the three types of friendship. These are friendships based upon respect, appreciation for each other’s qualities, and a strong will to aid and assist the other person because one recognizes their greatness.

I won’t cry because I know this is not another goodbye. It’s “see you soon”. Love you both, so proud of the life you have made for yourselves here in LA., and rootin’ for ya! :-*

A strong friendship doesn’t need daily conversation; doesn’t always need togetherness, As long as the relationship lives in the heart, true friends will never part.”
