Day 20 – Universal Studios (01/09)

“Sweetheart, magyuUniversal Studios na naman ba tayo? Ilang Universal na ba ang napuntahan natin, hindi ka pa ba nagsasawa?”

My reply to Kap. A short but direct to the point HINDI. Then I clicked the “Buy” button & voila, we had 5 tickets hehe. Wala na syang nagawa. No refund eh, gusto nya masayang? 😛

This is our first Universal experience in Hollywood actually. Kasi the last time we went to the U.S., we devoted 3 days in Disney & California Adventure dahil nga bata pa the giblings. Feel namin they would appreciate Disney more. Universal is more for the big kids & adults.

Tapos Legoland over Universal naman nung sumunod na punta naming Amerika. Kaya this time around, I really insisted that YES, we are doing this! 😛

Ang problema, I suddenly developed an adult-onset motion sickness. I swear, hindi into imbento. When I was much younger, lahat ng klase ng roller coaster, sinasakyan ko. Hindi ako naduduwal. Aba, itong Harry Potter ride, nahilo talaga uli ako ng sobra sobra (I thought it was just a fluke when I got dizzy with the same ride in Osaka).

Nakakadiri mang sabihin, pramis, I threw up a little in my mouth during the ride & had to rush to the nearest waste basket to throw up the rest upon exit!

I don’t mean to be a killjoy, coz the kids really like the rides in Universal, pero pumili sila. 😉

Universal Studios Hollywood is a film studio and theme park in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles County, California. About 70% of the studio lies within the unincorporated county island known as Universal City while the rest lies within the city limits of Los Angeles, California. Entrance to the park costs US$129/person for the most basic ticket (which is what we got). CLICK HERE to buy the ticket that is most suited to your needs.

Although Universal Studios Hollywood may be best known for their interactive Wizarding World of Harry Potter areas: The Hogsmeade in Islands of Adventure and Diagon Alley, the rides throughout the rest of the parks are filled with just as many thrills and entertainment. CLICK HERE to see the other park highlights you might enjoy.

Step right up and test your skills at USH’s carnival-style games over at Krustyland. Try your hand at games like The Full Nelson, Dunk or Flunk with Principal Skinner, Sideshow You, Thar She Throws, Wild and Willie, and more. Universal Studios Hollywood has attractive games that are easy money pits, ay caramba! Just ask Kap hahahahaha. OLATS! ;))

Be prepared to pay an extra $8-10/game to play for these carnival matches. Most of the prizes are IMPOSSIBLE to win, so don’t set your sights too high para hindi ka malungkot, lol. 😛 Aim to win a smaller prize nalang, at least medyo bawi na yung binayad mo. Wattan’ expensive souvenir ng iyong katangahan, ika nga. 🙂

I think next to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Krustyland was my favorite. Ang saya-saya ng awra! Happy too that I got to buy this Lisa sweater in F21 before leaving Manila. Sakto for our USH day. <3

See? ;P Hello Homer & Marge. Buti nalang natyempuhan namin sila. The mascots come out in rotations.

I don’t know if it’s because of the season, o kung worldwide talaga, 10-6 lang ang operating hours dito sa Universal Studios Hollywood. Feel ko parang sobrang bitin. Sana hanggang 8 man lang. Altho the queues were much shorter. Nung nag-USJ kami, ang hahaba ng mga pila, we even had to buy fast passes on top of the regular entrance tickets.

The weather that day was cool & crisp. Sweater weather lang sa makakapal ang balat tulad namin, so we were able to store our heavy jackets in the lockers by the entrance. We still brought them along kasi lumalamig ng sobra pag gabi.

The food stalls in Universal Studios Hollywood are UH-mazing! Yun bang tipong lahat gusto mong kainin.

Just look at these huge-ass donuts. I am the only chocolate-lover in the fam, so Ate got the strawberry vanilla for us to share. Would have wanted to take home a chocolate version too huhu, but my sugar police was very attentive that day.

Grabeh, walang patawad. Pati ba naman ikaw USH, may galit sakin? Panda Express parin sa loob nitong theme park? HOMAYGAS!

😛 Commercial break muna.

Highlight of our USH adventure was the Studio Tour. So I highly suggest that you take this 1-hour tram tour dahil sulit na sulit.

My Babyson was able to win me a colorful stuffed Bart. Of course I proudly lugged him around the studio. I highly suggest you take the 1-hour studio tour (check the schedule pagpasok nyo palang so you can work your way around it). Aside from a much needed rest from all that walking (you sit in a tram the whole way), you also get to see the back lot studio & fantastic effects! Dito palak sulit na yung mahigit 5k php na binayad mo.

Shuffled past Universal CityWalk to get to the parking & ended up buying more stuff. ;))

Hard Rock tee again.

We passed a sports store at the CityWalk, LIDS, selling basketball jerseys. Pricey, but personalised & authentic, so ok na rin. Besides, it’s a nice souvenir of our trip since they will be watching a Lakers game before we leave.

Closing time was 6 for the theme park so we were able to devote a couple of hours at the Universal CityWalk before calling it a day. Ok narin kesa babalikan pa namin. Universal CityWalk is the name shared by the entertainment and retail districts located adjacent to the theme parks of Universal Parks & Resorts. CityWalk began as an expansion of Universal’s first park, Universal Studios Hollywood, and serves as an entrance plaza from the parking lots to the theme parks.

Capped off our day with what else, eh di chinese food pa rin! Remember in Europe? Gabi-gabi ganyan din ang gawain namin? Kap & the kids kenat live without rice.

Mama Lu’s Dumpling House is a traditional family-style chinese restaurant with a Taiwanese twist. Serves pork dumplings & other delicacies such as spicy wontons, green onion fried pancakes, fried rice & udon. Team Goppets cannot make it in life without FLY LICE!

Buti nalang Ate bought me some yummy Voodoo Doughnut for take out while the boys were busy at the sports store. Nakalusot tuloy ako. This compensated for the chinese food. As you can see, this counter-serve bakeshop serves creative donuts in colorful, quirky environs. Best of which is the voodoo doll-shaped donut with jelly filling. The girls were so nice to let me have the whole thing. <3 Para manahimik daw ako. ;))

Douts are a dime a dozen, especially in sunny California. So carrying uniquely designed donuts was a smart move. Normally, they all taste the same. Sa itsura na lang sila nagkakatalo. Am I right? Or am I right? Kung wala yang Voodoo design, it’s just another ordinary donut.

Tomorrow’s agenda is Big Bear. Wala pa kaming nakikitang snow kaya kahit na 2 hours ang byahe, nag-maktol talaga ako & insisted that WE ARE GOING. Masunurin naman sila. Well, give & take yan.

Naguulat, si Jane Go – for the win. ;P
