As it is my birthday today, I thought it timely to dedicate a post to my Mommy. She did after all, bring me into this world & up to this day, still takes care of me & my family. I am so blessed that at 83 years old, she is still healthy & active. A bit on the skinny side now, but I guess as you grow older, your appetite diminishes. I hope that she gets to live a couple of years more & be able to enjoy the fruits of her labor. She’s always been working, working, working. If she doesn’t work I swear she gets sick! @_@ My Lola lived to be 90 so I’m praying that my mom surpasses that age at still the pinkest of health.
4 a.m. on the dot every single day, she wakes up to read her bible & other daily devotions (she has a lot). She then prays for me & my bother and our families, and the rest of our relatives here & abroad. She takes after my lola who also did the same when she was still living. Grabe. Ang haba ng dasal. About isang oras! At least my mom’s version is half. Then she goes about her day as the head of her businesses. Nope, ayaw magpapigil. @_@
Anyway, my mom has some Ilocana blood in her. And a lot of chinese. So she’s G.I., (genuine instik/genuine ilocana. Bad mix I tell ya). Meaning she is VERY thrifty! 😛 Rather than eating out, she prefers to eat at home & not spend. She frowns on branded things. She is for, like the pope advices, “choosing the more humble purchase”. So I was happy when I won a GC for Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight. I had an excuse to treat her out, and she didn’t have an excuse to grumble! 😉

Last month, we had a girls day out & went to Greenhills. Normally, I can’t last the whole day with her because the stress level is just too high. Pwede lang ako in small doses. She has to be constantly on top of things & she’s really impatient. She cannot stay put & has to constantly move around & check on things. Saka paulit-ulit na. But this particular day, she was as calm as the deep blue sea so we had an enjoyable day. I’m glad. Coz it’s not often that we get to go on a date.

Deep-Fried Beancurd with Salt and Pepper 240 php. This dish is so simple & yet, it was the highlight of our lunch. The tofu was cooked to perfection. Golden on the outside & soft on the inside. <3
This Xiao Long Bao assortment 229 php comes in 5 different flavors: green (vegetable & dried beancurd), Lt. orange (shrimp), pink (spicy beef), yellow (cheese) Dk. orange (spicy chicken)
Sauteed Squid with Broccoli 300 php.
Panfried Sliced Beef with Scallions 388 php.
Sauteed diced String Beans with minced pork served with Pancake 258 php. Ate wanted veggies which is why we ordered it but the chorizo mixed in gave it a nice flavor. We enjoyed this immensely. Good for 2-4 pax.
This was good with the chorizo mixed in. I was happy to see my mom eat more than the usual. <3

Mommy & I chose the old fashioned custard in TWIST. Hers is small/regular, while mine is a large. Ganyan talaga, dapat baggy din sa size! ;))

Even my lovelies had a chillax day, and the best thing was there was no traffic since everyone was sending the Pope off. We got there in less than an hour! \m/
My girls opted for the GELATI, layers of Italian ice and custard. Choose an ice and a custard. Regular 130 php | Large 160 php.
This is the GELATI. Ice in the bottom, covered by a generous dollop of custard.
The owner is very hands on. And nice too. He gave us a BLENDINI to try. Thank you kind sir! 🙂

Secondly po, I just wanna’ say that I always have this affinity for you maybe because I am sooo like you in many ways. Now po mas nadagdagan pa when you mentioned that your mom has an Ilocano blood, same as with my mom. Also, they both have the same waking hours which is 4AM and the same routine which is praying for all their loved ones… Yun nga lang po, my mom goes to the church afterwards and attend the daily early morning mass.
Anyway, your post po is heartwarming because you were able to spend some precious and quality time with your mom and your 2 daughters. I really wish that you will get to spend more fab years with your mom.
