#GOlobe30tting Day 23 Lucerne, Switzerland

Day 23

We are such slowpokes. Sleeping right now seems more delectable than going around. Lalo na at malamig ang panahon. 😛 Inabot na kami ng katamaran with just 7 more days to go into our journey. Wala na kasi ang commander-in-chief namin kaya wala nang taga-tulakKailangang gumalaw-galaw din pag may time, sayang naman ang biyahe! 😛

God is good all the time though, it’s a clear, crisp morning today. Made sure to remember to have our family prayer before leaving our apartment this time around so things will go smoother for us than usual. 😉

Took a 1-hour train ride to Lucerne. Ticket price for the day trip: 10k for the 4 of us. Had a refreshing nap on board which got us ready for some walking & sightseeing. Nagiging experto na kami sa panandaliang pagtulog basta may pagkakataon!

Day trip to Lucerne

Nestled within the heart of Central Switzerland, the city of Lucerne beckons travelers to come visit its gorgeous mountain vistas and verdant countryside. Lucerne itself is home to a series of contrasts between the historic old and the vibrant new, with ancient buildings set side by side with modern monuments.

Touchdown Lucerne! <3 Just outside the train station. Sarap ng walang bitbit na maleta. ;))

Kapel Bridge & River Reuss. The Kapellbrücke (literally, Chapel Bridge) is a covered wooden footbridge spanning diagonally across the Reuss River in the city of Lucerne in central Switzerland. Named after the nearby St. Peter’s Chapel, the bridge is unique because it contains a number of interior paintings dating back to the 17th century, although many of them were destroyed along with most of the centuries-old bridge in a 1993 fire. Subsequently restored, the Kapellbrücke is the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe, as well as the world’s oldest surviving truss bridge. It serves as the city’s symbol and as one of Switzerland’s main tourist attractions.

Got to Lucerne just in time for lunch. I’ve been harping about eating raclette that Kap finally gave in. Our english comprehension is different from theirs. When I asked “for how many persons is an order of raclette good for?” She answered 2. Ok I said “2”. Yun pala ang intindi nya sa tanong ko: ilang  order kakasya para sa among 4 hehe. Buti nalang malamig ang panahon at malamig ang ulo ni Kap. As a punishment though binawi nya ang order kong chocolate fondue, wah! :(( Next time I’ll make sure to be clearer. Mag-sign laguage na ako, mag-drowing pa ako! 😛

collage3

Swiss lunch at Pfistern Restaurant in Lucerne. Pricey but naglambing ako kay Kap, I wanted a real Swiss meal in a nice setting for a change. Pinagbigyan naman ako. <3

collage4

My favorite sourdough bread assortment yaaaaay, get all you want pa! \m/ Ayan, naka-smile na si Kap sa unli bread hahaha! 😛 Swiss meal for 4 pax: 6.5k php

collage5

Our server suggested an order of sausage & pot pie to go with our raclette. Approved!

img_8925

But I would have been happy with just this raclette & the awesome freshly-baked bread assortment. Sobrang panalo. Will surely buy a raclette maker from Gourdo’s when we get home for cheese nights with the fambam. <3

Babyson wanted a souvenir from Switzerland, so we made a stopover at Victorinox. I’m happy he was able to get a limited edition, Lucerne-available-only, swiss knife. \m/ Wag mo gamiting panasak sa rambulan yan ha! Tawanan ka lang ng kalaban, lol.

collage6

Victorinox is a knife manufacturer based in Switzerland. It is well known for its Swiss Army knives. Since its acquisition of rival Wenger in 2005, it has become the sole supplier of multi-purpose knives to the Swiss army. It is the biggest manufacturer of pocket knives in the world; in addition, they have a substantial line of watches, apparel, and travel gear.

Up next, more sightseeing & my goal to find (and eat!) the best chocolate in Switzerland! <3 The town is truly so picturesque, if only the weather was nicer, our trip would have been perfect. At least humihinto na ang ulan at mas mahina na ang patak, unlike yesterday.

Kap: 26 swiss francs? Mahigit isang libo? Ang mahal naman tsokolate lang? Me: Sige pili ka. Kain o shopping? Kap: Eh kung ganon isang malaking box na kunin mo. 😛 Dark chocolate ganache for me, 26.90sf ..

img_8967

and a swiss milk chocolate bar for my Nena 8.20sf – I tend to go for the bitter dark chocolate now, masyado na akong natatamisan sa milk chocolate. Hay, tumatanda na talaga ang taste ko!

Lion MonumentThe Lion Monument, or the Lion of Lucerne, is a rock relief in Lucerne, Switzerland, designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen and hewn in 1820–21 by Lukas Ahorn. It commemorates the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution, when revolutionaries stormed the Tuileries Palace in Paris.

collage1

Mark Twain praised the sculpture of a mortally-wounded lion as “the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world.”

img_8963

The Lion family. The she & he cubs, the lion king & queen, and there you are Ate! THE SLEEPING LION, zzzzzz. Kasi gabi na where you are haha. We are complete in this picture, my sweeetness! <3

Glacier Garden Museum. Here you can learn about ice and glaciers, and many interesting facts about Central Switzerland during the Ice Age. Not actually on our itinerary, we just sought shelter when the rain poured as it was right beside the Lion monument. But since we were already there, we might as well go in, right? 😉

Napasubo tuloy si Kap sa entrance fee! Adults CHF 15 or 750 php/personSeniors / disabled (IV) / students CHF 12. Children (age 6 to 16 years) CHF 8.

collage1

As usual, I sat in a corner while the kids absorbed & learned. I’m glad they find educational tours interesting. Mabuti at hindi nagmana sa akin hehe.

collage2

Highlights in the museum are the Million Year Show, the oldest mountain relief in the world, created by Franz Ludwig Pfyffer in the 18th century, and the most recently added attraction, a modern interactive landscape relief of central Switzerland.

img_8978

Yan, diyan magaling si Kap! ;))

collage3

This fantastic attraction with its 90 mirrors was created in 1896 for the Swiss national exhibition in Geneva and has been at the Glacier Garden since 1899. Although the corridors appear infinitely long, they are in effect quite short – so take your time walking through!

img_8988

Within the Mirror Maze and outside, there are lots of mirror experiments and distorting mirrors to play with. May nakakataba, may nakakapayat, may nakakatangkad, at may nakakaliit. So make sure you also visit the outside. We only chanced upon it when I was looking for the loo. 😛

Bucherer. Since 1888, Bucherer has been a leading retailer of luxury watch brands. Apart from its own Carl F. Bucherer watch brand, the company represents many other renowned brands. And with over 1300 different models to choose from, Bucherer also stocks the largest selection of Rolex watches anywhere.

collage5

Made a last stop at Butcherer to WINDOW SHOP before heading back to the hotel. Oh, klaro yan, window shopping lang daw. Sigh, just look at that diamond-studded rolex watch. Kaaaaap, pwedeng souvenir??? ;)) #tulolaway

img_8996

Hindi kinaya ng budget ni Kap ang Rolex kaya hanggang Pandora nalang daw ako hehe. Nevertheless, thank you so much my Honey for this uber cute surprise Swiss charm! A Saint Bernard Switzerland exclusive, purrfect for our Switzerland adventure. Just so you know, nalampasan mo yung London & Belgium. Hindi pa huli ang lahat, pwede paaaaa!

Ended our day with a mediterranean dinner. Pati si Kap sumuko na sa chinese food. Wala akong shopping today, hindi ginanahan, teehee. Dapat pala bukas mag-shopping ako kawawa naman kasi sya. ;P

collage6

Aktali, we were all so very tired na and New Point Take Away was the nearest Kap-acceptable place to eat in kaya gow lang. Mahina ang radar ni Kap for chinese food in Lucerne. Walang nahanap. ;))

collage7

As long as may rice, happy naman sila.

img_9013

Lalo na si Kap. Busog-lusog dinner.

img_9016

Everything is expensive in Switzerland. Swiss francs is more or less the same value as euro so x50, our very simple dinner was around 4k. Yaoza!! @_@

Don’t worry Kap my Kap, Milan na tayo tomorrow. Land of leathergoods. Mooooo.. mooomimili talaga ako. Do Not Worry. Babalik ang appetite mo hehe! ;))

PS: I must admit in all honesty though, this was the worst decision I made. Hindi sulit ang Swiss adventure namin. I should have listened to Kap & taken this out of our itinerary. Sobrang mahal ng pamasahe, way over our budget for just a 2-day adventure na puro ulan. Sorry honey. :'(
