Day 22 – California Adventure (01/11)

We bought our tickets from KLOOK.

Kap: “Sweetheart, Disneyland na naman? Nakaka-ilang Disneyland na ba tayo? Hindi ka pa ba nagsasawaaa?” Me: Anong litanya na naman yaaan, Honey? Minemorize mo ba yan? Diba ganyang ganyan din ang litanya mo sakin sa Universal? Wala ka bang alam na bagong linya? Ha??

Click BUY. Wala ka pa ring magagawa. Pramis, isa nalang, tapos quota na. Disney Sea nalang, solb na ako. Tigil na tayo for good. ;))

Compromise kami. California Adventure lang, ayaw na nya sa Disneyland kasi pang-bata lang daw yun. Mas mae-enjoy kuno ng giblings ang California Adventure. Eh di fine, basta may theme park na kaganapan, happy ako.

Tickets to either Disney California Adventure Park or Disneyland costs $180 for the most basic, single entry to the park. It also depends on the season (low, regular, or peak). If you intend to hop from one park to another, you can get multiple pass tickets to save on cost, CLICK HERE to buy online. Believe me, you cannot do 2 parks in 1 day, you really can’t. Allot at least 1 day per park.

Disneyland and Disney California Adventure are two different theme parks located essentially “across the street” from each other in Anaheim, California. Disney is the original park, conceived by Walt Disney himself, opened in 1955. Disneyland is what many people consider to be the classic theme park.

The entire complex that comprises the two theme parks, three hotels, and the Downtown Disney District is 500 acres. Among those acres, Disneyland claims 85 and Disney California Adventure takes up another 72. According to the Themed Entertainment Association’s 2014 Theme Park Index, more than 16 million visitors came to Disneyland in 2014, and about half of that visited Disney California Adventure. I strongly suggest you go to both, magkaibang experience talaga sobra.

The parks each have around 30 quick service and table service restaurants where you can snack on Mickey pretzels and lobster nachos, or sit down for duck wings and shrimp scampi. There’s one major difference when it comes to drinking in the parks: Disneyland doesn’t serve alcohol, but Disney California Adventure has a number of places where you can indulge. There’s even a winery outlet at Mendocino Terrace where guests may sample varietals from California and around the world.

Looking for the best food in Disneyland? Look no further! This is the ultimate list of what to eat at Disneyland! With everything from churros to the most amazing raspberry rose macaron. CLICK HERE to see the list of Disneyland food NOT to be missed!

Disneyland vs. California Adventure. In Disneyland, guests get their initial taste of Disney as soon as they enter Main Street, USA -the first of eight themed sections in the park. Others are Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, Mickey’s Toontown, Frontierland, Critter Country, New Orleans Square, and Adventureland. Sleeping Beauty Castle serves as the centerpiece, standing behind partners, a statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse holding hands. The smaller Disney California Adventure which, I feel, is more for the bigger kids, has seven themed areas: Buena Vista Street, Grizzly Peak, Paradise Pier, Pacific Wharf, Hollywood Land, Cars Land, and “a bug’s land.” There isn’t an official icon here, but Buena Vista Street sets the stage for what the rest of the park has in store.

Entertainment goes well into the evening at both resorts, with stage shows and street performances to 3D productions and parades that dazzle guests. There’s a fireworks display that lights up the night, plus a show called “Fantasmic” that features your favorite Disney characters, floats, puppets, and music over at Disneyland. Not to be missed are the Main Street Electrical Parade, and California Adventure’s World of Color. This show incorporates mist, water, color, and projection to showcase the incredible imagination of Walt Disney & uses a whopping 1,200 fountains that shoot water up to 200 feet in the air, casting a 19,000-square-foot aqua projection screen. I don’t know why it wasn’t available when we were there though. Sadness! :'(

Eating is so much fun over at Disney because that what they sell from start to finish, F-U-N. So expect themed food at every corner. CLICK HERE to see a list of available restaurants inside the park.

We chose Flo’s V8 Cafe mainly because of its proximity to the land we were currently exploring, lol. We were at the CARS land & didn’t want to stray until we finished all the attractions in the area. Otherwise, malayo-layo ang lalakarin mo. Gotta have a system, so you can enjoy & maximize all that the theme park has to offer.

Flo’s V8 Cafe is a car cafe for drinking oil and gas in Radiator Springs in the movies Cars and Cars 2. It is designed to look like a V8 engine head on, with a circular air filter, tappet covers, spark plugs, pistons and connecting rods as the supports for the shelter. The Cafe was inspired by the Midpoint Cafe on Route 66 in Adrian, Texas.

Flo’s V8 Cafe is a Route 66-inspired diner offering classic American comfort food with the usual Disney spin. Restaurants here are attractions in itself, don’t you agree?

Hay salamat, a rest from all those Chinese food bingeing these people have been subjecting me to! ;P Burgers for a change, yahoo! \m/

While the overall attractions & rides at Disney California Adventure aren’t nearly as strong & popular as Disneyland’s, these top of the lineup at Disney California Adventure are still worth the visit: Radiator Springs Racers, Soarin’, Tower of Terror, California Screamin’, Toy Story Midway Mania, and World of Color.

The only problem with many of these top rides is that wait times can be an hour or more, especially during the peak season. So make use of the FastPass to maximize your time.

Although Disneyland will always be my favorite Disney park, California Adventure is a close second. It has a fun atmosphere and enough top-notch attractions to fill at least one full day of your vacation. You haven’t really done Disneyland Resort unless you’ve experienced Disney’s California Adventure’s attractions & rides.

The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure is a classic Disney dark ride on a large and lavish scale. It retells the familiar story from The Little Mermaid movie, featuring familiar scenes, songs and characters. If you love the movie, you’ll love the ride. One of the best things about The Little Mermaid is that wait times rarely exceed 15 minutes. The ride loads quickly, so the line moves constantly. Save it for the afternoon when lines are long everywhere else. We found ourselves riding it even when we didn’t plan to, just because it’s so easy.

Toy Story Midway Mania! is fun for families of all ages. Even Kap & I enjoyed it. It’s a 3D moving carnival ride where you get to hit virtual targets with shooters in your car. The colorful ride hosted by characters from the Toy Story movie keeps score so you can compete against other riders. Toy Story Midway Mania! is a lot like Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters in Tomorrowland.

Radiator Springs Racers over at Cars Land is one of the best attractions in DCA. Riders are seat-belted into a six-seater convertible and treated to a scenic tour of Ornament Valley, followed by a twisting and turning adventure through the Cars universe. The finale is a high speed race against riders in the next car. It’s always exciting to see which car is the winner!

Radiator Springs Racers always has a long line, and fastpases always run out early in the day. I recommend that you get your Cars FASTPASS as soon as you enter the park. FASTPASS ticket distribution is not located at the ride. It is on the left side of the main thoroughfare just past Carthay Circle Restaurant. If your Radiator Springs return time is hours away, you can usually get a second FASTPASS for another ride. Because we didn’t know, we waited in line for 2.5 hours & wasted our entire morning, boo! :((

Soarin’ Around the World is another of my favorite rides in all of Disneyland. It used to be Soarin’ over California, but a 2016 update means new sights, sounds and smells for virtual travelers. This ride is exhilerating and gentle at the same time. Your seat will rise into the air in front of a huge screen and move smoothly throughout the ride to simulate the experience of flying over the world’s most famous landmarks.

Atlantic Seafood & Dimsum Restaurant is our greatest find & all-time favorite Chinese restaurant in Los Angeles. Located at the 2nd floor of Atlantic Times Square, this Dim sum spot also offers an array of seafood & meat dishes until late night. CLICK HERE for directions.

Atlantic Seafood & Dimsum Restaurant has late-night specials which is so perfect for us because we always end our day very very late. While most eateries are closed by the time we finish our daily adventures, this one stays open & even has discounts for late night customers! Ang saya saya! <3 Saan ka pa makakita ng 500 peso duck at lobster?? For 3 consecutive nights since we discovered this gem, we took advantage of their promo..

We have also come to like our usual & friendly server RON (the guy behind Babyson). Not only does this resto serve great food & has a classy ambience (may crystal chandeliers pa nakita ny0 ba?), it also offers amazing deals. I highly recommend to you guys when you hit L.A., hindi ako mapapahiya. Parking is not a problem & the area is safe, even at night.

Just so you have an idea, that plump & juicy Roast Duck (middle photo), we got for only $9.99. Also that Lobster noodle dish (right photo), also priced at $9.99 after you order 2 dishes at regular price. (No limit on the promo, you can avail of as many promo dishes as you want as long as you get 2 from the regular menu/promo item.) Pwede talagang balk-balikan.

And guess what! When we got home, a surprise was waiting for Kap my Kap! His order for a replacement backpack (di ba nabasagan nga kami ng salamin at na-dekwat yung prized Nike bag nya, hahaha) from Tennis Warehouse arrived just in the nick of time.

Kap was worried this package wouldn’t arrive in time. 2 days before we were scheduled to leave, damating din, whew! Just an observation, I’m getting mixed signals. Nabasagan kami sa San Francisco dahil nakabulagta yung backpack sa kotse. Pero dito sa apartment, nakakalat lang sa porch yung package, hindi ninakaw? What’s the deal? Lito me.

Two more days in L.A., then we’re heading home. Huhuhu, this is always the hardest part – the end of our vacation. How depressing. I hope that Ate’s schedule will still permit us to have even just a short adventure next Christmas. </3 Huy Linda, gawan mo ng paraan, okay?
