The Manila Symphony Orchestra is one of the oldest orchestras in Asia. Founded by Alexander Lippay in 1926, the orchestra has played a major role in Philippine history, including acting as a symbol of resistance during the Second World War. Today, the Manila Symphony Orchestra provides a showcase for young Filipino musical talent.

I’ve always wondered what a BASSOON was. And now I know! 😉 The bassoon is a woodwind instrument in the double reed family that typically plays music written in the bass and tenor clefs, and occasionally the treble. Appearing in its modern form in the 19th century, the bassoon figures prominently in orchestral, concert band, and chamber music literature. The bassoon is a non-transposing instrument known for its distinctive tone color, wide range, variety of character and agility. Listeners often compare its warm, dark, reedy timbre to that of a male baritone voice. One who plays the bassoon is called a bassoonist.

Afternoon Tea is served daily at the Writers Bar from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM and already includes assorted pastries, mini sandwiches, scones, and refillable hot or cold tea. Price is set at Php 1,200 for an Afternoon Tea set for two; or Php 2,995 for an Afternoon Tea with Champagne for two, subject to 10% service charge and applicable government taxes.

Established in 1926 by Viennese conductor Alexander Lippay, the Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is one of the first orchestras established in Asia and is currently the most vibrant and active symphony orchestra in the Philippines. It is composed of 60 committed musicians under the musical direction of Prof. Arturo Molina. Among its members are some of the most respected orchestra musicians in the country–many have been major prize winners in music competitions, while several have trained abroad and are in important teaching posts in the leading music conservatories in the country.

Remember that even the best of musicians are struggling artists, so your Christmas contribution goes a loooong way. 😉
