Trick or Treat 2014 with The GOppets!

We are practicing Christians, so we really don’t celebrate Halloween per se. We don’t decorate our home, we don’t hold parties or give away candies. We don’t hold seances & call the dead to rise. But we do enjoy the fun that accompanies it.  We consider it a holiday where we can do something with the kids, but we don’t uphold its pagan belief of evil spirits & demonic worship.

Read about the history of Halloween HERE

This is actually a touchy subject for Christians all over the world. Many say that Christians shouldn’t participate in such pagan custom. In my opinion, it really depends on what’s in your heart & what you believe. Life shouldn’t be just black or white. There should be some grey areas as well. If we are too serious on what should & shouldn’t be, life will be too complicated and we will just be staying at home doing nothing except twiddling our thumbs in fear of doing something unbiblical.

Except for one time, our family costumes have always been fun, not scary or demonic. That one time was last year when we went with The Walking Dead theme. But then again, the reanimation is about THE virus. Not because of some demonic transference. :P

The GOppets go Trick or Treat ing: 2014 Sims,  2013 (The Walking Dead), 2012 (Snow White), 2011 (King & Queen of Hearts), 2010 (Shrek)

2014. The Sims. The Sims is one of the most successful video games series of all time by Electronic Arts. The player creates virtual people called “Sims” and places them in houses and helps direct their moods and satisfy their desires. Players can either place their Sims in pre-constructed homes or build them themselves. The Sims can be played with Singles, Couples, or Family structure. And here, we are The Sims Family. :) Those green objects on top of our heads are called PLUMBOBS used to identify the character selected and to which the player can give commands.

2013. The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead is an American horror drama television series in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by flesh-eating zombies caused by a virus than kills people, then turns them into the walking dead.

2012. Snow White & The 7 Dwarfs. A fictional character from Walt Disney Productions, Snow White is a fourteen year old princess and is the fairest in the land in the story. In the film she is depicted as living under her wicked, vain stepmother, the Queen, who fears that one day Snow White’s beauty might become greater than her own so she cast Snow White out and sent a huntsman to kill her, but instead helps her escape into the forest where she stumbles upon the home of the seven dwarfs, who happily aid her. The Queen discovers that Snow White has survived and uses magic to disguise herself as an old hag and creates a poisoned apple that will kill, whoever that eats it will be put into “Sleeping Death” and only a kiss of true love could revive her. When the dwarfs are away the hag arrives at the dwarfs cottage and offers Snow White the poisoned apple, unbeknownst to her that it is the Queen in disguise. Snow White bites into the apple and falls into a coma. The dwarfs discovering what had happened track down the Queen and short fight ensues and the Queen is killed. Believing her dead, the dwarfs build an open grave for Snow White to rest on. Time passes and the Prince comes across Snow White. Saddened by her apparent death, he kisses her, causing her to awaken. As the Seven Dwarfs dance with joy, Snow White and the Prince go off to live in his castle.

2011. A Pack of Cards.

2010. Shrek & Fiona. Shrek is an ogre who leaves home to see the world and ends up saving a princess, Fiona. A nasty, green ogre who is the main character in the book, he is abandoned by his parents in the beginning. Later on, he meets up with a talking donkey who takes him away to Princess Fiona’s castle. Shrek and Fiona marry at the end.

The GOppets treat halloween more like one big costume party. A casual day of playing dress up & going around watching everyone else look silly & just have clean fun. A day for TRICK or TREAT ing. It’s like one big production number & the village is our stage.

The kids chose the SIMS theme for this year. They wanted something not too flashy like the previous years. Something “normal” naman daw with just the PLUMBOBS identifying us. Well, I’m too fab to be normal hehe. I can’t do simple. Sorry babes. :P

Le Miz Piggy.. Wig with tiara & piggy ears from the disney store, Cherry pearl necklace from H&M accessories, Heart-printed top from Marks & Spencer.

Thank you my sweet ATE for laboring & making our PLUMBOBS! <3 Click here for a video tutorial on How to make PLUMBOBS!

My Instagram caption: Thank you kids for giving me this Halloween. I know you’re supposed to be having your own Trick or Treat ing with friends. But still you agreed to go around with clingy Mommy. I know someday will come soon enough. But today.. I’m just happy with my “For Now” moment with my not-so-little-ones.

Ate’s junkfood party dress from H&M, 1.2k at the second floor.

And look who decided to join The GOppets! Nothing is more heart-warming than having our kids’ friends come over & join our family. <3

High School Seniors. And they didn’t find us baduy at all for going around trick or treating as a family.. IN MATCHING COSTUMES. YAY!

Our pink chariot. With my babyson’s buddies trailing us from behind.

Our neighbors prepared some wonderful treats this year. Not just candies, but extra special treats!

My ate Marita baked her special adobo pandesal which many of the kids (and adults like me) scrambled to get in delight. Masarap yata yan!

Dirty Ice Cream ni Manong! ;) Some even went to the extent of hiring food carts all in the spirit of fun & camaraderie.

Which my babyson enjoyed on a hot humid day! (Kaya ayaw na mag-elaborate costume!)

And I believe most people have the same thinking about Halloween too if I were to base it on the cute & adorable decorations & costumes.

The GHOSTBUSTERS! ;P I love that the boys were so game with my photo request. Nakakatuwa sila. I know most boys wouldn’t want to get caught being seen with their parents, more so parents of their friends.  But these guys are just the sweetest & went trick or treating with us for the long haul! <3

There were just a handful of people in scary costumes. Most came as disney & cartoon characters like this adorable little girl who happens to be the daughter of Bianca Araneta Elizalde.

Bianca Elizalde in BIRKENSTOCKS! Yes, it’s definitely in now if she’s wearing it too! ;)) Look BEA!

And can you spot Pumba? What about the Power Rangers, the Powerpuff Girls with the Heartthrob, and alas, the naka-bombang SIMSkada who matched our costumes perfectly. We needed a group photo, naturally! ;))

The chicks & the heartthrob! ;)

SIMS for the win! <3

Trick or Treat ing is obviously not just for kids. We saw many adult friends in costumes. Some with their kids.. some without! ;))

Hi Andy! :) Love your pirate costume with that cute lil monkey perched on your shoulder. Jack Sparrow?

Ton dressed as GROOT. I can just imagine what he had to go through. Good thing it wasn’t a super hot day or he’d be downsized to firewood.

Traffic inside our village was horrific, and lines were really long. But you can see & feel the fun each one was having with this one big street party.

Most drove around in cars.

Some in trucks & vans..

Some in magical chariots…

And some in very unique rides.. like THIS! ;)) Ganyan ang Pilipino. Maabilidad! \m/

Our gates opened to the public to accommodate guests from other neighboring.. and not so neighboring villages. So the lines were really long. Akala mo H&M sa pila, lels. So we just contented ourselves with watching.

See? All in the spirit of fun & dressing up silly. I didn’t see any burning bushes or human sacrifice. But in the end, I fully respect the opinion of others who opt not to join in the fun & consider it satanic. To each his own. TRICK or TREAT. HAPPY UNHALLOWEEN! ;)

Happy 20th birthday to my sweetheart, my soul sister, my best friend. The very first person who taught me how to be a mother, and how to give (and receive) such unconditional love.
