The Big Change: My PALEO MANILA Diet

I’m 45. I can deal with growing older -there is such a thing as growing old gracefully, and the cycle of life is a fact of life that I have come to accept. But the truth of the matter is, my future doesn’t look promising. My blood works have gone through the roof -more so than the usual past. And all my maintenance meds are barely keeping me afloat. I shudder to think what they even do to my poor kidneys as I’ve been on meds day in & day out for the past 5 years.

I see Kap. I see my children. And I know I need to stay healthy to live long for them. Every night, that’s my fervent prayer. To live another day for my family. That’s my goal. Eating healthy, now that’s my challenge.

One day while I was browsing through Instagram, I saw Jin post this & investigated further.. and I said to myself, this is something I can do. This is something that is possible!

PALEO MANILA cooks & rations food that is more than just palatable. It’s actually gourmet! I looked at their feed & web page and I saw food that I can actually enjoy, and ration that is acceptable. What’s more, it’s not just counting calories. It’s a change of lifestyle. Where other diet companies promote calorie counting as their main objective for one to lose weight, Paleo Manila targeted my real concern & it goes deeper than the superficial need to lose weight & look good. It aims to change my eating habits & make me live a healthier lifestyle. This is what I need in my life more than looking good. Well, of course looking good is just icing on the cake (but let’s not talk about cake anymore, shall we? :P)

The Paleo Diet is an effort to eat like we used to back in the day thousands of years ago.  If a caveman couldn’t eat it, neither can you. This means eating only food that we we could hunt or find like meats, fish, nuts, leafy greens, regional veggies, and seeds.

One can actually still eat out & enjoy as long as you stay on this meal plan.

Look at the average caveman.. tall, muscular, agile, athletic, and incredibly versatile. And compare him to the average Homo Sapien now: overweight, out of shape, stressed out, unhappy, sleep deprived and dying from a host of preventable diseases.

Back in the day, grains weren’t part of our diet. The Paleo Diet also almost completely eradicates sugar. Unless you’re getting your sugar from a fruit, forget it.  Sugar causes an energy spike and crash in your system, turns to fat unless it’s used immediately, and wreaks all kind of havoc on our bodies. And when there is an absence of sugar & carbs, our body will take stored fat and burn THAT for energy.

So if we cut out the grains, processed foods, and dairy, we’re left with only things that occur naturally: Meat, Fowl, Fish, Eggs, Vegetables – As long as they’re not deep-fried, eat as many as you want, Oils – Olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil – think natural. Fruits. Nuts. Tubers – Sweet potatoes and yams.

To find out what food is considered Paleo, an app has been created specifically for this  purpose which you can download. Paleo Central is available in the Apple App Store and for Android Devices. And you can also get recipes HERE & HERE to get you started.

I’m so fortunate to be able to partner with PALEO MANILA for the big change in my life. For the next couple of months, they will be closely monitoring my diet & lifestyle. They will be my partner in the truest sense of the word & give me all the necessary support that I need until I get the hang of it & start applying it in my life one slow but sure step at a time. Remember, my goal is NOT JUST to lose weight, but to live & eat healthy for a longer life. I hope you will also support me on this! <3

Disclaimer: All my food posts from hereon out, for about a month or so, were from previous food trips & have been scheduled for publishing way before I committed to Paleo Manila’s lifestyle change. Being a food blogger, I will still go to events from time to time & post photos of all the food served from various restos, but I will be choosing carefully what I eat, and only according to what is in the PALEO diet. I value PALEO MANILA’s support & confidence in me & I will do my best not to fall off the wagon, and achieve the goals they have set out for me.

Don’t worry, I will not flood my blog posts with my new diet. I know what a turn off that can be for you who come for my food posts. So rest assured that you’ll hardly know I’m on it. :) I will only post about my progress weekly so that any of you who might be interested may have a guide as well. I’ll even ask Paleo Manila for easy to follow recipes to include on my weekly posts from time to time. Thank you for your support, my dear readers! Let’s all hope & pray that I can do this! :-*

To Kap & my 3 angels, I dedicate this lifestyle change to you. I’m so sorry that it has taken me this long to want the change. I love you so much & I want to be the best that I can be. I want to live as long as God will allow, and spend my every waking moment loving, serving, and being with you! <3

I’ve been seeing this on Jin’s and Leslie’s IG and I am so intrigued and curious. I’m an insulin-dependent diabetic with hypertension and God-knows-what-else (hehehe) so this type of diet is very ideal for me. Pag-ipunan ko nga! After 1 month of saving, makakabili na siguro ako ng one day meal from Paleo Manila, hahaha…

SO that’s what Paleo is pala!!! Kala ko naman resto!! The food pics of Jin looks super good!! :)
You know what, super timing! I just had my bloodtest done a few weeks ago, and the results were well, not very surprising – but alarming. I was a little lampas the border for my sugar, uric acid and cholesterol. So I nEED to change my diet or exercise. As in no choice talaga.. Sigh..

You’re so lucky to partner with them!!! :) I wish you all the best in this new endeavor!! :)

i believe you can do this ms. jane! there is no better inspiration for us moms to be fit and healthy but our own families.

i saved up the image above, the one with what and what no to eat as a guide for myself. although i was wondering if dairy is not allowed, what would be their alternative calcium source.

best of luck ms. jane! keep us posted. :)
