Sumptuous Sunday

My favorite pastor, Joby Soriano, was the speaker today. I always have fun & sit in attention when he’s the speaker! ;) His topic today was Anger, which is very timely because I can’t seem to shake off the resentment I have been feeling for almost 2 weeks now, no matter how hard I try.. no matter how hard I pray.

“Staying angry is like taking in POISON yourself while waiting for the other person to die” -Malachy Mc Court. This sums up what I have been feeling, and I’m ashamed of it. He gave this guideline to keep off that feeling of anger that simmers & boils at every opportunity because the devil has gained a foothold.. STOP, LOOK & LISTEN.

Remember: Anger is 1 letter away from DANGER!

STOP: You cannot take back words. And words can scar. So try not to speak in anger. When you are angry, count 1-10. When you’re very angry, count 1-100! :))

Proverbs 21:23

New International Version (NIV)
23 Those who guard their mouths and their tongues
   keep themselves from calamity.

LOOK: Instead of anger, have compassion & understanding. Look at their prospective.

Psalm 4:4

New International Version (NIV)
 4 Tremble and[a] do not sin;
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.

LISTEN: When we are angered by others, our natural reaction is to get back. But God wants is for us to get down on our knees & PRAY. Tell God HOW YOU FEEL. Pour out your anger & resentment, all the poison & leave it with God.

James 1:19-27

New International Version (NIV)
19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. 21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

Pastor Joby then showed us a great example of how the Holy Spirit being in you helps you face the world & cope better. He had 2 balloons. One was filled with air, which popped when put on top of a lighted candle. This is like a person without the Holy Spirit. The other was filled with air AND water, which depicts the holy spirit in you. Even though it was put on top of a lighted candle, it remained constant & didn’t pop. That’s how the holy spirit reacts to all the frustration, anger, malice, bitterness & resentments of this world.

The water inside the balloon absorbs the heat of the fire.
Water is a very great substance for soaking up any kind of heat.
The thin balloon allows the warm heat to pass through very quickly and warm the cold water.
As the water closes up to the flame as it heats up, it begins to rise,
and cooler water replaces it at the bottom of the balloon.
This cooler water then soaks up more heat and the process repeats itself.
In fact, the exchange of water happens so often that it keeps the balloon from ever popping!

Moral lesson of the story??? Don’t put a waterless balloon on an lit candlestick haha, LOLjk! :P Seriously, if you have the holy spirit in you, nothing & no one can ever make you pop, figuratively! ;))

Ephesians 4:31-32

New International Version (NIV)
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

I went home with a heavy burden lifted. My spirit is renewed.

And just look at what greeted us as we came home for lunch! :) Our cook went out of her way & made us tropical fruit juices complete with umbrella & pineapple! <3 Isn’t she just the sweetest? What a great way to toast & bid adieu to my anger & resentment! ;))
