Sumptuous Sunday

We had a guest speaker in church today. He is pastor Doug Nichols. He and his wife Margaret have served in missions for nearly 40 years of which 20 years were in the Philippines. They presently reside in Seattle, Washington, where Doug serves as Founder and International Director Emeritus with Action International Ministries (ACTION). He is an advocate for Children in Crisis, Leadership Development, and Pastoral Leadership Development with a special focus of evangelism, discipleship, and development to the urban poor and underprivileged children. Doug travels extensively throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin and North America speaking on behalf of the glory of God in missions.

Topic today was The Family Walking with Jesus. Please click here to see his message summary. He emphasized 7 points:

1.) Walking in God’s works. Ask yourself  “How can I help someone today?”
Ephesians 2:8-10
New International Version (NIV)

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

2.) Walk as Children of Light. Let people see your good works so that God may be glorified. Do we shine for Him?
Ephesians 5:8
New International Version (NIV)
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light

3.) Walk carefully. Wives, submit to your husbands. Fathers, do not provoke your children. Children, obey your parents.
Ephesians 5:22-24
New International Version (NIV)
22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

Ephesians 6:4
New International Version (NIV)

4 Fathers,[a] do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

Ephesians 6:1
New International Version (NIV)
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2“Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

4.) Walk by Faith. Believe.
2 Corinthians 5:7
New International Version (NIV)
7 For we live by faith, not by sight.

5.) Walk by the Spirit
Galatians 5:16
New International Version (NIV)
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

6.) Walk in a worthy manner. Show tolerance for one another. Practice humility, gentleness, patience.
Ephesians 4:1-3
New International Version (NIV)
1 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

7.) Walk in LOVE.
Ephesians 5:2
New International Version (NIV)
2 and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

One thing nice about our church is they invite guest speakers. The resident pastors don’t monopolize sundays, but encourages growth & exposure. It’s just like ulam.. even if your favorite food is adobo, it’s nice to have baked salmon once in a while para hindi nakaka-uya! ;))

And speaking of baked salmon, it’s what we had for lunch (again) today. Along with seafood carbonara & a hearty serving of kani salad…

I think our cook wasn’t inspired today. Maybe she fought with her boyfriend/textmate??? </3
Our salmon was burnt! or at least the cheese part.
And the inside was not fully cooked! :(
But the creamy carbonara was delicious.
So maybe she & her BF/textmate made up na when she got to the pasta part, hehehe! ;))
I also liked the kani salad in balsamic vinegar.
Look at my plate hahaha!!! <3
Ate asked for an extra side dish of string beans.
I don’t know what’s up with her love affair with string beans lately! @_@

For dessert, we bought 2 kinds of chocolate cakes from Mary Grace

Chocolate truffle cake
Chocolate velvet cake
Have a great & blessed week ahead, everyone! :-*
