San Marino Premium Spanish Sardines

We used to have a big badminton group in our homecourt and Kap & I would normally hang with them after a fun but exhausting game. This was around 2 years ago, back when I could still play (and run & leap a little), LOL. Anyway, after our game, like 3x/weeknights, we’d each bring out from our heavy-laden bags food to share with each other. Oh yes, pagkain at inumin actually ang nagpapabigat ng bagahe namin. Hindi raketa atbp. :P

Some bring food (a.k.a. pulutan), some bring drinks -alcoholic beverages to be exact. They claim it’s to “unwind after a hard day at work”. Which is why the group was referred to as the GGG, or the glug-glug gang!

Since Kap doesn’t drink, and I only drink socially & occasionally, we’d zone in on the food. #LamNa

The most popular pica-pica in our group, aside from the butong pakwan, the chorizo & longganisa, the sisig & lechon kawali, and lumpiang shanghai, is the Spanish Sardines on crackers. It’s practically a staple because well, to be honest, it’s the most affordable bitbit & no cheche-burecheng preparation is necessary. At only 95 php/bottle, you don’t really break the bank kahit pa 3x/week ka magpakain. And it’s also the easiest to make. Just take it out from the bottle, flake it, put on toast & voila!

So it’s actually from them that I learned to serve Spanish Sardines. Now, I serve it to my guests as “Hors d’oeuvres” (para kunwari sosyal) with wine or cocktails. I swear, this is a great appetizer when I have impromptu visitors at home & our cook is hurriedly & harriedly preparing our meal.

Fast forward to now. Aside from fond memories of the group, I have inherited the love for spanish sardines and continue to serve it at home or take along on picnics.

San Marino Premium Spanish Sardines are made with select freshly caught herring fish with intact scales. It is the best-tasting bottled Spanish Sardines in the market today, both delicious AND flavorful. It also has Omega-3 that lowers blood cholesterol level reducing the risk of having heart problems. Plus it’s a good source of protein and energy, with no preservatives.

As you know, I love all things spicy, so San Marino Premium Spanish Sardines answers that craving any time of the day. I make sure our pantry is well stocked & I also ask our cook to come up with exciting recipes for my Spanish Sardines fondness.

One of my favorites is the Pasta con San Marino Premium Spanish Sardines..

A bit tangy because of the lemon juice, mixed in with a burst of other flavors coming from the spanish sardines & veggies. I love it! <3

Ingredients: 1 bottle San Marino Premium Spanish Sardines (240 g) | 1 regular pack pasta | 1 Tbs corn oil | 1 clove garlic, minced | 1/4 onion, chopped | 2 tbs. dry white wine | 2 Tbs fresh lemon juice | 1/4 cup fresh finely chopped parsley (when available)| freshly ground black pepper

Directions: Boil a pot of water and cook the pasta. While the pasta is cooking, in a nonstick skillet, heat half a tablespoon of corn oil over medium heat and then add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for one minute, stirring, then add the sardines and the white wine. Cook, stirring, for 2-3 minutes, until the wine has been evaporated. Turn off the heat, add the lemon juice, freshly ground pepper to taste, and parsley, and stir. Toss the sardine mixture in a bowl with the cooked pasta. Season to taste with another squeeze of lemon juice and more black pepper, if you want. Enjoy! <3

The kids meanwhile, like the San Marino Premium Spanish Sardines Rice..

Add more sardines & ground beef to your liking. This is actually a complete meal in itself.

Ingredients: 1 bottle of San Marino Premium Spanish Sardines (240 g) | 2 Bags of Rice (brown rice works well too – coz alam nyo na, my girls are health nuts!) | 1 Pound Lean Ground Beef (or Ground Turkey.. again, alam nyo na! :P)

Directions: Cook rice. In large pan, mix together cooked rice, San Marino Premium Spanish Sardines, and ground beef (uncooked).

Absolutely delicious and is a full meal all by itself!
