I first heard of the Le Cordon Bleu-trained Chef BRUCE LIM through -don’t laugh.. KRIS AQUINO‘s show! ;) Yep. What can I say? I’m a fan, and I watch her morning shows. Ok, ALL her shows! :P A portion ofΒ KRIS TV had the jolly chef cooking really good stuff. So when The Bossman asked who wanted to try the less than 2 months old RUSTIQUE KITCHEN, the new brainchild of Tonyboy Cojuangco & long time life partner the beauteous Gretchen Barretto, I raised my hand faster than a speeding bullet & said.. AYE SIR! <3

Chef Bruce,Β an American born Filipino-Chinese chef and TV personality/entrepreneur from San Francisco, California, is the man behind private dining Chef’s Table (now closed) & Mise en Plus Foods Inc., a commissary & food production company (also closed). They say third time’s the charm, so I’m pretty convinced that this is it for the ever-smiling chef!




If you will notice, all the other Chefs are.. “short-haired”. Kinda like Bruce. ;)) Chef’s requirement.

Rustique Kitchen is actually the old La Regalade French Bistro -also owned by Tonyboy Cojuangco. And save for a few minor adjustments in the facade & interiors, it has been revamped to serve Filipino comfort food. The interiors are rustic/old country french. Casual yet posh, as is Gretchen’s style. I was really glad I dressed up for this dinner. I would have looked so out of place had I come in jeans or shorts. Although the ambiance is pretty friendly & casual, it’s nice to look your best in delightful surroundings. ;)



It’s always fun eating with the foodie group because we get to take a lot of photos which I can share with you without cleaning the bank, and needless to say, try A LOT of dishes!

From left to right: HOT MAMA -nope, not me. :P (Tomato Juice, calamansi, chilli, roasted garlic, celery salt, absolute vodka) 155 php. RUSTIQUE PEAR TEA (pear, pomegranate, rosemary) 165 php. And CALAMANSI FIZZ (calamansi, taragon, clear soda, absolute vodka) 175 php.



Caesar Salad 225 php. Char-grilled romaine lettuce dressed with roasted garlic enriched caesar dressing, oven roasted cherry tomatoes & queso de bola shavings.


Bruschetta with Foie Gras & Jam 450 php (2 pcs.) Crispy bread topped with mango jam & seared foie gras.

Lapu lapu ceviche 350 php. Fresh rock fish marinated in citrus vinaigrette.



Fish Market 550 php. Playful look at dried fish & fresh lapu-lapu baked in lemongrass marinara.



Lengua Pastel. Another new dish, coming your way soon!


Tortang Talong 150 php. Sauteed pork with egg & topped with salted eggs.


Sizzling Oxtail Kare-Kare 550 php. Simmered in peanut sauce served on hot plate with tripe salad & fried rice cakes. Definitely a twist on your usual kare-kare. A salty tripe salad replaces the common bagoong.


Beef Steak Pasta 390 php. Grilled steak with spaghetti tossed in a creamy citrus sauce topped with caramelized onions & fried shallots served with sauteed mushrooms.


New dish. Perfectly baked & seasoned Salmon. This was one of my 2 favorite dishes that night. <3


Grilled Rib Eye Steak 945 php. Grilled USDA beef rib eye topped with fried onions & cheese, served with a tangy cream sauce & potato pave. The star of the night! <3 The beef was SO tender & succulent. I really REALLY didn’t want to share! ;)


Signature Buko Pie 150 php. Warm buko pie served in glass. Okay, I tried Kap’s and maybe this is a close 3rd favorite! <3



Quesong Puti Cheesecake 250 php. Classic baked cheesecake bruleed & dressed with macerated mangoes & strawberries.


Warm Chocolate Tart 150 php. Warm chocolate tart with strawberries & cream.
