Pesteng Ahem Strikes Again!

We are all asthmatic in the family (well except for Kap). With me having the worst case, followed closely by my Lovey. For sure yan, when coughs & colds strike, diretso na sa hika. Wheezing & coughing galore, hay!

Because the weather has been playing us all lately with sudden heavy downpours one minute & glaring sunshine the next, the kids have been suffering from flu-like symptoms. My poor Lovey got hit the worst.

As in her coughs are non-stop, especially at night. Her doctor has recommended inhalers, ventilators, cough syrups, antitussive medications, antihistamine tablets.

Our nebulizer is always ready, never packed. Strepsils is always stocked in our ref.
Maintenance medications such as these inhalers are always at hand.
Medications should always, ALWAYS have adult supervision.

NOTHING has helped. Every 5-10 seconds she would cough -the dry painful kind, especially at night so she really hasn’t been sleeping well for the past couple of days. Last night, I couldn’t take it anymore. Nothing worked & I felt like tearing my hair out whenever my baby coughed because I didn’t know how to help her as she looked on helplessly at me, begging me with her eyes to stop the torture.

I googled “how to stop a cough” & I was directed to THIS SITE that adviced me to generously put vaporub on her chest & soles then cover her feet with socks. It’s a scientifically unproven & most often questioned urban legend that really does wonders & miracles -I can attest to that! m/

I put some on her chest again & feet as a precaution this morning before taking her to school, although, her excessive coughing occurs mostly at night time.

Within seconds, not even minutes, her coughing stopped and she fell into a deep, blisfull slumber -cough free! I swear to you, I’m not exaggerating.

Which is why I am sharing this with you, my dear readers, in hopes that it will help should the case arise. No, this is not a paid advertisement, lels. Nothing is worse that non-stop persistent coughing & lack of sleep -not only for the person affected, but for everyone in the bedroom as well. In this case, all 5 of us since we share a family bed room come night time.

Honey was also mentioned several times when I googled, but I didn’t have one handy (must stock up). So the Menthol rub was definitely the hero of the night.

One spoonful of Honey goes a long long way!The thick syrup coats and soothes the back of the throat, while the sweet taste causes salivation, which thins mucus and reduces the urge to cough.
Honey also has antimicrobial effects.

I haven’t tried this though, so I couldn’t vouch for sure, unlike the menthol rub which worked INSTANT wonders.

We still have a couple more months of rainy season, so do take heed of this wonder therapy. It might just come in handy for you or your loves one. Sharing is caring, like ate always says. ;)

Today, my baby was able to go to school with a smile on her face na, YAY! m/

If symptoms persist DO consult your doctor. Have a happy sickness-free weekend! <3
