Food & Dining

Ozark Diner, Baguio

The thing about traveling with foodies is 1.) You never go hungry. You eat every hour of every minute. Sampling food left & right. 2.) You get to try new & different restos. It’s never boring.

Such was my 3 days & 2 nights with the KTG family. The Bossman led, and we just followed wherever he would take us. We trusted him fully with his choices, and he didn’t fail us. We all went home empacho’d, but happy.

For lunch on the 2nd day of our Baguio sojourn, he said we will be driving blindly to look for a certain restaurant his friend IAN CARANDANG (of Sebastian’s Ice Cream fame) had suggested. This restaurant was called OZARK DINER.

A american diner that specializes in American (Traditional) food, Barbeque, Breakfast, Brunch, Buffets, Burgers, Cajun/Creole, Diners, Hot Dogs, Sandwiches, Soul Food, Southern and Steaks. Ozark Diner prides itself of true-blue american chefs at its helm, Kevin Mize & Klyde Mortel. Yes. This is an american diner (in Philippine soil) at its truest sense, folks. Your experience ain’t gonna get better than this! ;)

This photo belongs to Ozark Diner. What a happy bunch! Managing Partner – Albert Sotelo | Executive Chef – Kevin Mize | Lead Line Cook – Klyde Mortel | Crew – Celso Adaman, Thony Malangin | Pastry Chef – Hannah Lim | Waitstaff – Mesiel Manzo, JR Calimlim | Staff – Fe Real. All the reviews says it’s hard to find. With Waze, it was easy breezy. A few directional assistance here & there from the locals., but we got to Ozark Diner in no time.

Managing partner ALBERT SOTELO greeted us warmly & suggested a few dishes we should try.

Open kitchen. As you know, Diners serve greasy food. So be prepared to hear lots of sizzle.

I have tasted a lot of fries. But this Fries at Ozark Diner is AWESOME! <3 We simply couldn’t get enough! Generous basket of hand cut, house made fries. What a steal at 80 php!

A first for me, Fried Green Tomato. Cornmeal battered, served with a creamy sauce Also served as an appetizer, served with white gravy. 60 php. A double entendre of healthy yet sinful! :P

Mac and Cheese Side Dish 90 php. Gooey melted cheese with pasta.

Chef’s Soup of the Day 50 php. It was definitely a WOW moment for Kap because of the price points. And look at that shredded chicken bits. Sulit na suit!

Large Salad BBQ 210 php. Topped w/ a big scoop of Chicken BBQ or Pork BBQ w/ Ozark Diner’s house made Hundred Island Dressing and croutons.

Hickory Smoked Chicken 310 php (Ozark’s Specialty). Half spring chicken w/ biscuits and a choice of side.

BBQ Plate. Buttery biscuits,  Hickory smoked pulled pulled chicken (or pork) 210 php. Served with spicy pickles + one side.

Dirty Rice 60 php. (Must try!) A Louisiana favorite. Rice sauteed with Trinity and chicken liver.

BBQ Sandwich 160 php (Pulled Chicken or Pulled Pork). All sandwiches are served with a very generous portion of fries. Hickory smoked pulled chicken or pork shoulder. Served with Ozark Diner’s house made bun with bbq sauce and pickles.

What I should have ordered! @_@ Richie’s Biscuits and Gravy 160 php. (Chef Kevin’s favorite!) Layers of buttermilk biscuits smothered with sausage gravy and scrambled eggs. Not a pretty sight, but OMG that moment when you actually get a big bite to taste. FTW! <3

Buttermilk Pancakes 180 php. Stack of pancakes w/ sage sausage (bacon+80). Ate has been having a love affair with pancakes lately & has taken to ordering it at every meal.

The “kiddie” table. ;)

Chicken Fried Pork 210 php. A Southern staple, cornmeal battered pork loin, plus a side of fries.

Chicken Fried Steak 250 php. A Southern staple, cornmeal battered chicken, plus a side of green tomatoes.

Chicken Fried Steak 210 php. A Southern staple, cornmeal battered chicken, plus a side of macaroni.

Grilled Rib Eye Steak 600 php. Sseasoned w/ compound butter & served w/ buttery biscuits plus 1 side.

Grilled Cheese Sandwich 120 php. Perfectly melted cheese on buttery white bread. *All sandwiches are served with a very generous portion of fries.

Rootbeer Float with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream & Rhum. 200 php.

THE HANGRY KTG. :P Kung saan-saang sulok talaga umaabot!

Interesting cakes. No visit to Ozark Diner is complete without trying out one (or ALL) of these cakes! ;))

Dark beer cheesecake 150 php. Ozark Dinner’s best seller. If you are a beer drinker then you will love the bitter taste.

Banana Cream Pie 85 php.

A happy, well-fed bunch! ;) Ray & Lovelynne of lynne-enroute, Mr. & Mrs. Pickiest Eater, and The Bossman.

I’ve had so much fun with the KTG group in Baguio. I can’t wait for our travels this summer! <3 Abangan!

Jane! I looooove everything I see! Esp. the prices, hahaha… ang mura ha! I want those biscuits and gravy. I can just imagine how marvelous they are.

Has Ate tried the pancakes at Malcolm’s Deli in BGC? It’s really the best I’ve tasted. Their eggs benedicts aren’t so bad either.
