Korean Food Fest at Signature Club, City of Dreams Manila

I have always been fascinated with Casinos. Parang laging ang saya-saya sa loob, never a dull moment & time flies by so quickly! Whenever Kap & I would go to City of Dreams for meals & dates, we’d pass through the Casino & I’d always see happy campers at the slots, or players deep in thought at the tables. It intrigued me.

I never learned how to play though, so as I drag my feet & linger at each table -mesmerized, Kap would explain & whisper to me the game plan as it progresses. I find the atmosphere electric-charged. Very thrilling & exhilerating, especially when there are winnings at the table. I am drawn to the sound of kaching-kaching at the slots & I am glad whenever a player finds lady luck & hits dirt. You’d definitely know because you’d hear a loud whoop! Kulang na lang tumambling. :)

I often wondered what the VIP rooms are for. You know, the heavily-guarded areas cordoned off at the far corner. Whad’ya know? Lady luck found me as well when Kap & I were able to not only observe inside the ultra posh high rollers area, but dine at the very exclusive Signature Club at City of Dreams Manila as well! With over four decades of culinary experience, Chef Kim is renowned for championing Korean heritage by preserving the use of ancient cooking methods and techniques passed on through generations. Raised in Pyung Chang, he started his career in 1975 in Yong Pyung Ski Resort and worked in various restaurants as he rose up the ranks. He is currently the Executive Chef in Bongwoori Network Korean Traditional Restaurant Company.

Honored to meet chefs Lee (chef de cuisine of Signature Club at the City of Dreams Manila) and grand master Kim Sungkeun for the week-long Korean Food Festival.  Kim Sungkuen (R) is one of the highest regarded chefs in South Korea, awarded in 2008 as a Nationally Recognized Culinary Master and granted a special award in 2014 by the South Korean government’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.


Started our lunch with a tall, refreshing glass of cold Omija Tea 160 php. A Chinese Magnolia Vine Fruit Tea.


Chef Kim’s creations are inspired by ingredients and dishes served to Korean monarchs -with one of its appetizers, the Joseon Dynasty Milk Porridge or “Tarakjuk”, named after the Joseon kingdom which ruled the Korean peninsula for more than five centuries.


White Kimchi with Pear 240 php. Not your usual spicy red kimchi, it’s more of a pickled appetizer with pear as its surprise ingredient. The sweetness of the pear works well with the tanginess of the vinegar.


Among the exceptional Korean food prepared by Chef Kim are the Kyung Bok Palace Summer Dumpling and the Steamed Five-Colored Prawns. Other must-try dishes are the Gang Won Do Cod Fish Stew, Gangnam Herbal Braised US Beef, and Pork Belly Garbi.


Kyung Bok Palace Summer Dumpling 350 php. Filled with mushroom bits & beef stuffing.



Jagalchi Seafood Soup 790 php. Spicy, this very flavorful broth filled with creatures from the sea made me fall in love at first slurp. <3


Steamed Five-Colored Prawns 560 php.


Pork Belly Garbi 550 php.


Gangnam Herbal Braised US Beef 680 php. With Ginseng & herbs, the beef was slow-cooked for 6 hours, making it oh so tender!


And surprisingly, my favorite of all, this MUST HAVE Gang Won Do Cod Fish Stew 650 php! The sauce alone was seeped for 20 hours. Truly special!


And to cap off our yummy lunch, Glutinous Rice Donuts (North Korea Style) 180 php for dessert. A sweet, sweet ending indeed. <3

Thank you so much City of Dreams Manila for a very unforgettable lunch & VIP experience. I guess I will have to learn the games now if I want to set foot in the Signature Club again, lol!
