Kitchen 1B

It’s true that a health scare is the best eye opener to healthy living. At best, it forces you to evaluate your existence & change your lifestyle. I’m a walking, talking, living proof of that. In the past, I’ve always said to myself, I’ll go on a diet tomorrow.. or I’ll start exercising next week.. or I’ll live a healthier lifestyle soon. Guess what, time caught up with me & now I have so many chronic illnesses I don’t even know where to begin.

Kitchen 1B is a healthier spin-off from Apartment 1B. Same owner, different take. After surviving breast cancer, owner Marivic Diaz-Lim now promotes healthier eating and uses only naturally grown ingredients in her new free-range, organic restaurant.

I love how everything is so colorful yet tasteful at the same time. You know what I mean? It’s not the “screaming” colorful type. :P It’s generally an all-around happy place with smiling & courteous servers. Just stepping inside gave a warm fuzzy feeling in the pit of my tummy. <3 It was very maaliwalas & there’s a feeling of lightness.

I’ve been reading mixed reviews about Kitchen 1B. I guess it’s because this is a HEALTHIER OPTION restaurant. So if you’re not into oats, quinoa & other “healthy foods”, then this is not the place to go because definitely, you will not come out happy. Go to its sister Apartment 1B for that. ;)

But if you are like my girls who have made the change to the healthy side (and have enticed me to join the bandwagon -so here I am) then this is the perfect restaurant where you can enjoy eating without the guilt. I love how their tagline is “YOU DON’T HAVE TO EAT LESS. YOU JUST HAVE TO EAT RIGHT.”

This is also the PALEO MANILA principle which I am an advocate of. I’ve tried so many diets where calorie-counting is used. I have failed numerous times. Over & over again that I stopped trying. But Paleo Manila gave me hope because I love food. I love eating. And being on Paleo Manila diet allows me to still enjoy eating -as long as I eat right.

Kitchen 1B also promotes the same principle. Which is why people who are not looking for healthy food will definitely go out disappointed because there is none of that “junk” here.

Sitting on a Kenneth Cobonpue chair certainly added pizzazz to our brunch! ;) With ipads for menu. Ayayay!

I liked how there were pictures of the food so you don’t have to guess what’s in it, or wonder about the size. It also states what ingredients are used. So you have a clear & better understanding of what you are ordering.

Honestly, when I committed to the Paleo Manila diet, I really thought I had to say goodbye to eating out. But thanks to restaurants such as Kitchen 1B, eating out is as easy as 1-2-3! <3

I’m not saying that this is for everyone, but you might want to give it a try. Who knows, you may just like it. I certainly did. And NEVER in a million years did I EVER think I’d like yogurt & quinoa! And again, here I am! :P
