UCC Clockwork

So happy to have been able to go back to Estancia mall in Capitol Commons. Happier even that I finally got to try UCC Clockwork! <3 Starbucks is our go-to for coffee because.. well.. it’s everywhere. But for really classy third wave Japanese coffee, we get to indulge once in a while in UCC. This is however, my first time to visit the hybrid clockwork where precise method & coffee excellence meets Japanese comfort food tweaked perfectly to tickle the Filipino palate.

Third Wave Coffee refers to the movement to produce high-quality coffee, and consider coffee as an artisanal food stuff rather than a commodity. This involves improvements at all stages of production, from improving coffee plant growing, harvesting, and processing, to stronger relationships between coffee growers, traders, and roasters, to higher quality and fresh roasting, at times called “micro roasting” to skilled brewing.

I am currently so in love with Estancia Mall. <3 Sana may sinehan na!

Name it & UCC Clockwork probably has it. Coffee by Halogen Siphon, Pour Over, Cold Brew and many more. Choose your poison! \m/

UCC is short for Ueshima Coffee Company which is a manufacturer of coffee and tea products in Kobe, Hyōgo. UCC & UCC Clockwork Philippines is brought to us by coffee lover Hubert Young. Arigatou Gozaimasu! :)

UCC Cafés are all-day dining coffee shops that serve siphon-brewed UCC Coffee and a whole lot more. It is a source of satisfying Japanese-fusion dishes, delectable desserts, and unique hot and cold beverage selections.

What’s great about UCC Clockwork is that the menu here is very different from the regular UCC Cafés serving the usual Japanese soup, sandwiches and pasta. At UCC Clockwork, not only is it a third wave coffee shop featuring blends from a variety of local and international single origin coffee, but it has gone a step further & created a new menu consisting of home-grown Japanese fusion comfort food with a few UCC favorites thrown in.

UCC Clockwork

Baked Nachos 320 php. I enjoyed this a lot as our starter. Just look at those multi-toppings! Corn tortilla chips, sautéed ground beef, tomatoes, garlic sour cream salsa pomodoro, mixed bell peppers, onions & melted THREE cheese. Have I got you sold on it yet? ;))

Chicken Crocks 230 php. Karaage chicken SKIN, mixed slices & honey vinegar dip. Hey, did I mention CHICKEN SKIN? <3

Grilled Pulled Pork with Cheese 250 php. Grilled cheese sandwich, honey barbecued pork for an added oomph, and house salad.

My summer drink Pink Guava Mojita 220 php. Rhum, mint leaves, lime & pink guava. And (Indulgence by) Irene’s Strawberry Mint Margarita 250 php. Strawberry puree, mint, tequila & triple sec.

Cheers to my drinking bud (Indulgence by) IRENE, and lovely hosts Judy Ang (beside me) & Janna Arceo (across). Thank you for hosting us! :-*

Pumpkin Soup 120 php. Creamy pumpkin with basil pesto & garlic bread.

Quinoa, Grilled Chicken & Mandarine Orange Salad 320 php, and Guiltless Salad 300 php. Mixed lettuce, gruyere, seedless grapes, mixed veggies, tomatoes, alfalfa, orange, spiked balsamic dressing & candied walnut. Really refreshing. But then again, they already had me at SPIKED. :P

Beef Hash Benedict 320 php. My first, actually, to see a benedict made of hash. And it’s oh soooo good! Corn muffin, beef hash, béchamel sauce, poached egg, arugula & house salad.

Ouvo y Negra 280 php. Squid con tinta, ebiko, spaghetti, garlic, parseley, pepper, lemon & garlic bread. Was I not concerned with my health, I would have eaten a heap of this. I love anything negra. Unfrtunately, my hypertensive state prevents me from over-indulging. Boo!

Adobo Floss Pasta Plate 320 php. Olive oil based spaghetti, garlic adobo flakes, tomatoes, onions, poached tamago & garlic bread. Another must-try! <3

US Angus Rib Eye Steak (standard) 850 php. So very tender grilled U.S. rib eye, japanese potato salad, buttered veggies & house salad. This is the standard (but big) 350 grams. You can get a LUMBERJACK (for sharing, or for big appetites) at 700 grams, 1,500 php.

Steak & Eggs (Asian) with Kimchi Rice 650 php. MINE! <3 There are 2 choices: Asian & Western. I opted for the Asian because of the kimchi rice. Noms!

Crabby Fatty Omurice 350 php. OMG you NEED to try this. It’s so sinfully good I can’t even. Shredded crab meat, garlic, onions, kani, ebiko, parsley, under a bed of toro-toro egg swimming in aligue cream. It’s a dish in itself! <3

Milkfish Belly Paksiw 300 php. Now this got me exclaiming -SAY WHAT?? Paksiw na bangus in UCC? But I have to admit, it’s one hecka vinegared miklfish. Milkfish belly stewed in coconut vinegar & garlic, rice, eggplant katsu & soft scrambled tamago.

Tales from the Tummy & friends. <3 Thank you for making us always a part of your food crew Richard. What will happen to me na when you go to Canada for 15 days? PAPAYAT AKO AT MAGUGUTOM! :'((

UCC Clockwork has many different coffee beans available. From local beans from Benguet, Kapatagan and Mt. Matutum. To many more from South America and Africa. I opted for the Judy on the Rocks 200 php in honor of our cutiepie hostess. Named after Judy, this has salted honey on the rim, charcoal roasted coffee & “on the rocks” cream. 1,000 calories!!!

While (Indulgence by) Irene, a lover of all things exquisite & rare, got her usual, the Panama Santa Teresa Geisha 590 php. Light and fruity you can actually mistake it for tea. Limited too, so once they run out, it will be removed from the menu.

This is probably the winner though. Because.. ICE CUBED COFFEE!!! Kori Kohi 220 php. Cold brew Ice Cubes, warm milk & syrup. With the young & lovely Judy demonstrating how it’s done. Yum! <3 I am so getting this next time! But the milk doe.. hmmmnnn. #NotAMilkLover

Sumiyaki Coffee Jelly 180 php. Topped with vanilla bean Ice Cream. Perfect way to beat the heat!

Clairs 250 php. Japanese-style waffle crepe with Ice Cream. Choice of: green tea, mango, strawberry, and this tiramisu.

Mango Crepe Samurai 220 php. What little of it I got to taste (because –> KAP!), I liked. Bruleed mango crepe drenched in creamy custard.

Can I just say? Japanese Pancakes 190 php are AWESOME! <3 Cotton-soft, light & fluffy pancakes. This is plain but oh so tasty. AND AGAIN, DID I SAY FLUFFY?

Kap is not a matcha lover but I really got jealous with the look of love he gave this big baby. And here I thought I was his one & only big baby! :'( Thick Toast Green Tea Nutella 340 php. Matcha toast, nutella, vanilla ice cream & warm chocolate sauce.

Oozing with nutella! Om nom nom! <3

I think we must have eaten more than half of what’s on the menu! Thank you so much UCC Clockwork for your graciousness & generosity. We were stuffed silly & no amount of caffeine could keep my eyes open on the way home. I slept like a log & snored like a pig, really. I can’t wait for for the kids to try UCC Clockwork! <3
