Food & Dining Kap & Me My Kids

Ma Mon Luk

One thing that I really appreciate about my 3 kids is how, in spite of the way I have spoiled them through the years, they remain down to earth & simple. They don’t demand. Never. They accept what is given to them without any questions & with so much thankfulness. They would buy branded things from the latest season & style whenever I would give them the free hand, but they would also attack the sale pile whenever there is one to save me a penny. Hindi sila pihikan.

After a lengthy day with me & Kap, be it after an extensive shopping spree or just a walk around the mall with their arms empty from purchases, or from a dinner at an upscale hotel or restaurant to a simple eatery around the corner, there is one thing that they NEVER fail to do. And that is to thank us profusely. Always after each adventure, no fail. They’d shower us with hugs and kisses to show their appreciation. And the moment our car hits the garage, headed by their Ate, they’d collectively say “Thank you parents for a fun day”. FUN DAY. For them, it’s never about the shopping or eating, but how we spent the day together. That’s what they thank us for. Wherever the GOppets go, be it grand or low key, it is always guaranteed to be fun as long as we’re together. And that in itself is a blessing. <3

Sa oras ginhawa at sagana, busog sila. But in lean times, they adjust and don’t complain. Sometimes they’d share & mention in passing that their friends ate at so & so, or traveled to this place or that. And I would always lament on how I wish I could also take them there, but they’d quickly assure me that they are where they belong. And that is with Kap & me. That is my pride & glory.

It’s funny how with Kap & me, they’d unknowingly categorize places to shop & eat into 2 different classes. With me, whenever we would set out for a day of fun, I’d ask them where they want to go & they have a new restaurant or shop they’d like to check out, having done extensive looking into prior. “Let’s check out Dean & DeLuca mommy” or someplace else where the cutleries used are silver, not stainless or plastic – the plates ceramic & not melamine haha.  But with their dad, they’d automatically reply with either Aristocrat or Chinatown. LOL! #LamNa

Such is what happened one night after a movie where Kap treated us to a premier night event. (Bongga si Kap, umi-event din sya diba!)

From SM Southmall in Las Pinas to Binondo, a 1-hour drive. Ganyan mag-impromptu foodtrip ang GOppets! :P

It was still early & Ate didn’t have school the next day so they were hesitant to go home right away. Naglambing sila sa daddy nila. “Dad, can we eat out nalang please?” Ate is always the spokesperson of the trio. If their dad had a particularly good day, and his wallet is medyo fat from a day’s work, he’d say OKAY. Then he’d say “Basta sa mura lang ha” and the kids already know the drill by heart. One that would get their dad to agree to shelling out precious moolah. They’d reply “chinatown Dad” or Aristocrat. Those are their usual choices. And they are happy with it. More importantly, Kap is happy with it. :P

So off we went to MA MON LUK (now named MASUKI) in Benavidez known for its siopao & noodle soup.

Oh yes may bazura pa talaga sa harap ng Ma Mon Luk. Thanks to Kap & his humble ways, the kids live a well-balanced life. :P

No aircon on a hot summer night at Ma Mon Luk, with steaming bowls of hot noodle soup & sweat dripping from every pore of my body, but I don’t know, I was happy. <3 Happy to be where my family is. The family that sweats together stays together. :P

The mandatory mirror selfie. Me, my pearls, and Kap! :P

I can say “all of the above please” and Kap probably wouldn’t even blink an eye with the affordable prices on the Ma Mon Luk menu.

Beef Wonton 205 php.

My growing boy eats his noodles with gusto. :)

Beef Chicken Wonton 220 php.

My lovely, happy girls. <3

Blessed with Kap my kap. And it shows. :)

Asado Siopao 55 php & Siomai 35 php/piece.

Happy bellies one & all at Ma Mon Luk. Famealy meals is important so do take the time to eat with your family no matter how busy you may be.

Dear God, I want more time on earth with my GOppets & family times like this please. Us pa more. :) Thank you Jesus, that’s all I ask. <3

Kaya nga Niel huhu dusa sa init tapos hot noodle soup pa so lagatak ang pawis. :P I think magbubukas sa lucky chinatown mall asmper abet. Baka mas type ko dun kasi aircon na & baka wala nang funky smell haha. Kaso si Kap mas authentic ang itsura ng lugar mas gusto hay.

Masuki! – One of the food stop namin ni hubby at little man nung mag DIY Binondo Food Wok kami last April. Because anak daw po ni Ma Mon Luk may-ari ng Masuki na dating Ma Kong Mami, the siopao is really good! Although, personally, I am not a fan of their huge siomai. :( We sat at the round table behind Jena… :)

Your kids are amazing! They live a well-balanced life kasi you can bring them to old establishments like this or sa mga holes in the wall at upscale restos at they adjust pretty well. Kudos to you and Kap po for raising such humble and down-to-earth kids…

Thank you Kei my love! <3 Ako din hindi ko nagustuhan yung siomai. There's a funky smell lang in the resto pero we got used to it after a while hehe. Value for money their siopao/mami pares. :)

Bigla I missed the yummy goodness of ma mon luk siopao. I remember my favorite was bola-bola with sauce. My goodness, still the best siopao I’ve ever had is from ma mon luk.

This is one old restaurant my parents were raving about. One Sunday, hubby and I went to Banawe and saw Ma Mon Luk Quezon Ave on the way home. So we tried it and went home disappointed. I remember the restaurant having a funky smell as well. We said “first and last”.

Haaaay ewan ko nga why that funky smell. Maybe it’s from the steamed baskets? kakaibang amoy hanggang labas umaalingasaw haha. Kaso gusto ni kap.. so bow! :P
