Kap & Me My Kids Others

Dentophobia

When I was younger, living in a hospital proved to be more a curse rather than a blessing. Because my mom was a busy-ness woman and doctor, she decided that in order to be a hands-on & effective mom, we had to live in her place of busy-ness. Otherwise, it’ll be 365 days of all-nighters for her & she wouldn’t get to see us, her children, anymore.

And so my first 18 years of life was spent on the 2nd floor of her 5-storey hospital in Binondo. Benavidez to be more precise.

Every single day, as the delivery room was directly on top of our hospital room-turned-bedroom, I would hear screams of women giving birth -which brought me endless nightmares.

That not being enough torture, going down on my way out (and going up on my way in) I would always pass the dental office & hear the sharp piercing sound of the scaler. Zzzzzzziiing, zzzzziinnng. Now THAT SOUND brought a greater nightmare than the sound made by screaming banshees in the delivery room.

Since then, I have developed a deep fear of the dentist. I avoid dentists at any cost, thus my mega ugly & crooked teeth. I’d rather suffer a toothache or two, or three, in silence than go to the dental office for relief.

A couple of weeks ago, after more than 3 years of keeping silent, making pa-simple & not getting my teeth checked, Kap decided it was family dentist time & dragged me by the hair, kicking & screaming. (Ok fine that’s an exaggerated version, but you get the picture). The pant-wearing/man of the house has spoken, wala na akong magawa.

Thank you GOppets for being so game and letting me use your photos & corrupt you ala-Kardshians for the sake of my blog! ๐Ÿ˜›

I swear, the entire time my teeth were getting cleaned I was squirming & moaning like a crazy person. I am SO thankful that Dr. Erwin Santiago is really patient & kind. He & his wife ate Cora are God-sent. They have been our family dentists for as long as we can remember & they are the only ones who put up with my fear & stress. Kahit na pati sila mega-stressed with my pathetic screams, go lang. They actually schedule me on my own & keep the whole afternoon closed kasi grabe talaga akong mag-eskandalo. Kap has to hold me down to restrain me or lalayas talaga ako. Mouthpiece & all!

Kap & I go waaaay back with this highly loveable couple. We met in church & kuya Erwin was often our Bible Study teacher when our Pastor wasn’t available. The GOppets love them like crazy. Ang tanong, kung kami din ba eh love nila, LOL!

So now, after almost 2 hours of having my butt glued to that scary chair forย cleaning & 2 fillers, I am good to go again for another 3 years hehe. Ok na yan, si Kap lang naman ang kini-kiss ko. Magtiis nalang sya kesa magdusa ako! ๐Ÿ˜›

Me, my caftan (daily uniform kasi presko), and my Kaftan-K! ๐Ÿ˜› This is how comfortable we are with our dentists. May landian blues pang kaganapan sa office, much to the embarrassment & chagrin of our kids.

Thank you again kuya Erwin & ate Cora for your kindness & patience with the GOppets (especially ME!). We love you. I may hate dentists, but you guys I love. Mwahness! :-*

Same here, Ms. Jane! I am scared of going to the dentist. Hahaha!

Anyway, great to see that it is a family affair in your case. Kahit paano nale lessen ang fear pay kasama ang buong fambam!

Hope you have a great week ahead of you, Ms. Jane!

And tinuloy-tuloy ko yung root canal ko para 1 go nalang. Napilay yata yung kamay nya 5 oras akong nagtititili dun. Poor kuya erwin hahaha!

I used to hate going to the dentist. I was traumatized by how my first tooth extraction went. I have crooked teeth but my fear of the dentist prevented me from having it fixed. Wala lang akong choice when I was about to get married. Needless to say, I now have dental braces and found the perfect dentist for me. No more fear. On second thought, I’ll check pa after my scheduled extraction. Hahaha. Have a happy week ahead, Ms. Jane and the GOppets!

Hi Jane, I just wanted to ask if the Dr. Erwin you were referring to in this entry is the doctor whose son was diagnosed with Hodgskin Lymphoma. I read a testimony written by Dr Erwin Santiago about his son’s treatment and healing and wanted to get in touch with them. Not sure if he’s the doctor you are referring to but I thought I’ll give it a try. Hoping for your response. Thanks Jane! – Riz
