Kap’s Birthday at Yanagi Midas Hotel and Casino

The first & only time Kap & I set foot in MIDAS HOTEL and CASINO, we were impressed with the cheerful lobby. Of course, having all those branded bags & orange boxes displayed smack right near the entrance added to my delight. 😉 But more than that, we found out that the hotel has a JAPANESE BUFFET! Oh yes. Needless to say, we were overjoyed with that little bit of info. So for Kap’s birthday, we decided to take the fambam at YANAGI Midas Hotel and Casino to celebrate. Irasshaimase style!

Orange Hermes boxes makes for a bright & sunny decor! <3 I think I might just change my favourite color to orange! 😉

I love how the lobby is so well-it & decorated with colorful flowers just about everywhere. I like happy places.

Yanagi is on the 2nd floor of Midas Hotel & Casino. It’s a bit on the small side. Great for intimate affairs. I would suggest that you make reservations though coz it really gets filled up pretty fast.

YANAGI Midas Hotel and Casino, having been awarded by The Philippine Tatler as Best Restaurant in 2013, boasts of the following dishes in its Japanese buffet. We knew we were in store for one delicious ride! <3

YANAGI Japanese buffet rates:
Adults P1,400 net (lunch and dinner/ Fridays to Sundays only)
Children 6-12 years old (50% off)
Children below 6 years (free!)

– Kurage (jellyfish and cucumber with sesame), Wafu (fresh tuna with wasabi goma dressing), Sake (salmon with sliced onion) as well as fresh & raw selection of thick slab-like slices of tuna and salmon sashimi with freshly-made sushi rolls stuffed with prime ingredients and flavorful sushi rice.

Yanagi has quite a selection of fresh sashimi. I was happy to see mackerel & squid incorporated into just the usual tuna/sashimi mix.

– Cold favorites like the Ika Uniyaki (tender grilled cuttlefish served with umami-rich sea urchin sauce), the Sake Nanban Zuke (deep fried salmon marinated in sweet vinegar, with leeks) and the DIY Cold Soba.

– Hot hits with the crisp tempura heading the pack, Niku Curry (soft beef stewed in a rich curry sauce), and a tasty stuffed salmon dish and Yaki Udon (pan fried noodles with assorted veggies). All eaten with the Gyuniku Yakimeshi (beef fried rice)

– The Teppanyaki station for hot-off-the-grill delights such as juicy shrimps and premium beef. Hot broth is served over at the Sukiyaki table, where you can put together your own bowl of comfort.

There are only a handful of small stations, around 6 (salad, cold station, sukiyaki, teppankayi, hot dishes, & the dessert), but everything you would ever want & look for in  a Japanese restaurant is included in the buffet. Our favorite is hands down the teppanyaki station where UNLIMITED prime beef and fat, succulent prawns were cooked upon request.

– For dessert. An assortment of sweet fresh fruits, Zensai (boiled red bean with mochi), Coffee Jelly, and a spread of cakes and homemade ice cream – black sesame and wasabi!

Kap doesn’t like calling attention to himself, but I was insistent that he got a happy birthday song that night. Look at his awkward face haha! 😛
