Fireside by Kettle

As you well know by now, Ate is my source of everything hip & in. Siya lang ang taong kilala ko na hindi naman kumakain pero ang daming alam tungkol sa pagkain! :P So when she told me about Fireside by Kettle and how we really REALLY need to go & try it out asap, my blogger & mommy instinct told me I should follow her lead. Stat.

One thing nice about sending Ate to a Catholic school is the many feasts celebrated by the oh so many saints! ;)) And my Lovey was free as a bird as well, so we took the chance on the feast of the Black Nazarene last Friday. I wasn’t sure about the traffic situation actually, but I thought we could always turn around & go back home if the traffic was horrible. Thankfully, it wasn’t as chaotic as I imagined it to be. We were in Megamall in under 2 hours. Yay! \m/

Fireside by Kettle was fairly new but it was jam-packed by eager beavers wanting to try the latest “IN” resto in the metro. It serves comfort food. You know, the kind that makes you happy & satisfied with every bite and you just want to lie down & sleep right after? ;)

Comfort food is traditionally eaten food which often provides a nostalgic or sentimental feeling to the person eating it, frequently with a high carbohydrate level and a simple preparation. The nostalgic element most comfort food has may be specific to either the individual or a specific culture.

As the name suggests, Fireside by Kettle IS by Kettle, the restaurant famous for its Buttermilk Chicken. And the partners are the same owners of  Meat Plus Specialists Philippines, with the banner carrier TENDER BOB’s. So yes, chicken & all kinds meat IS their specialty.

Fireside by Kettle

SM Megamall. 3rd Level, SM Mega Fashion Hall, SM Megamall, EDSA corner Julia Vargas Ave.,  Mandaluyong +(63 2) 532-1807

I was floored & humbled when the very handsome & friendly chef of Fireside by Kettle, Chiloy Santos warmly greeted us by the entrance.

Not a week old and Fireside by Kettle was already fully booked! Make sure you either come early (the mall opens at 10am) OR make a reservation to avoid a long queue. THAT’s how popular it is right now.

We started off with the Truffled Potato Chips 199 php. Deep fried potato slices drizzled in Bleu Cheese sauce and topped with minced Green Onions. Crazy, wonderful crunch in every bite! <3

Because Ate didn’t want to feel guilty for all things fried & carbs coming our way, she coated her tummy first with fresh greens. Grilled Chop House Bowl 189 php; Platter 389 php. This is just the bowl size but I was amazed at how big the serving was. We 3 gals were able to share the 2 salad dishes. Char grilled romaine US top blade steak, onion, and zucchini strings with balsamic dressing.

However, I liked my Lovey’s classic Ceasar Salad more. Plus it came with a slab of Bacon. How can you NOT fall in love at first sight.. and bite. RIGHT??? <3 Caesar Salad 219 php plate; 439 php platter. Romaine & Iceberg with bacon slab.

50/50 Meatloaf P389 php. Served with with BBQ sauce and a side of Garlic Mashed Potatoes. The gravy was enough though and went perfectly well with the meatloaf, so we didn’t touch the BBQ sauce lest we F it up. :P I have to admit, when our server recommended this dish, I wasn’t very convinced. I never did like meatloaf. But when he said it was made with 50% Ground Angus Beef, and 50% GROUND BACON, I got my game mode on. I like that it wasn’t soft & slimy to the bite like all other meatloafs.

NOW THIS. THIS IS THE STAR OF FIRESIDE! <3 Buttermilk Fried Chicken Fingers 489 php. Tender, juicy, tasty strips of chicken brined for 24 Hours & dusted in a Cajun Ritz breading before being deep fried to golden perfection. Served with Homestyle Gravy and Honey. Double perfection actually! <3

Just look at that meat. Tender. Juicy. Tasty. And deep fried to perfection. ‘Nuff said. <3

But one MUST NOT forget the Cornbread Donuts. Oh no no no. It’s SO GOOD that we had an extra order of it coz 1 serving with the Buttermilk Chicken just wasn’t enough. Additional order of Cornbread Donuts 109 php for 5 pcs. I would have ordered more except Ate was already giving Lovey & I the stink eye. Boo! Kill joy. Buzz killer!

So we pretended it was a Saturday.. ergo the cheat meal! :P

And since it was a “SATURDAY” cheat day, we decided to go for it and have not 1, not 2, but THREE desserts!!! My favourite among the 3, Coconut Checkered Cake 259 php. Chef Chiloy’s mom’s recipe, tweaked from the original chocolate checkered cake. I must say, I like this version better with pound cake & coconuts. And the PINK??? GAH!!! <3

Chef Chiloy was so sweet to send out 2 desserts for the GOppets gals. This Sticky Banana Fig Pudding 129 php. With a side of vanilla ice cream & caramel sauce.

and this Chocolate Honey Comb Mousse Cake 319 php.

And who would we see in Fireside by Kettle but RICHIE ZAMORA of THE PICKIEST EATER with the lovely RINA of RINA’s RAINBOW & cutiepie baby RAIN. Celebrating his birthday with his beautiful fambam! <3

Whenever I get to hang with Richie & Rina, Richie always tells me happy tales of his adventures with his fambam. So I was SO HONORED to meet not only his wonderful mum, but the rest of his family as well. <3 And they were all so warm & nice, just like I imagined them to be. Now I know where Richie gets his mega-watt personality!

Richie is my favorite funny man. He never fails to brighten my day with his entertaining & personal posts. And he is so humble, I tell you, despite his stature as a well known & respected food blogger. He never let it get to his head.

Richie has always been the type to share. As in he really shares everything -like invites, goodies, and what nots. What he has, the rest of the gang enjoys as well. And we weren’t even surprised when he sent over some of his birthday doughnut to our table. It’s just the kind of man he is. WE LOVE YOU LOADS RICHIE! <3

Aaaaand.. I’m on THE PICKIEST EATER!

Do read Richie’s birthday post on THE PICKIEST EATER where I get a special mention. Woohoo!!! <3

Sigh. If only Megamall wasn’t so far away. The new Fashion Hall gets exciting by the minute, I swear. Keep this up & the GOppets will just have to leave the boondocks & move to the city where all the action is! @_@

    Yey! A new post! Woohooo!!!

Ang ganda naman ng bagong hair ni Ate! Bagay!

Buti naman di kayo masyadong nahirapang pumunta sa Gamol, at sana nga maging super interesting pa ang Mega Fashion Hall para lumipat na kayo dito, hahaha…

I think I’ll hold off visiting Fireside until the crowds have died down and they’ve gotten their groove already. i remember going to Tuan Tuan before, and their service was TERRIBLE! So even though people would say the food there was good, I swore I’d never set foot in that store again, and I don’t want that to happen to Fireside.

Have a great staycation at F1 jane! mwah!

I’m really happy I got to see you during my celebration, Jane! Thank you for your kind words.. It means a lot to me :) I’ve always also considered you among the most humble human beings I’ve ever met. You constantly downplay your own popularity as a blogger, and the way you are accommodating to other people from all walks of life is admirable. You always go out of your way to make other people feel special, and I appreciate it!

By the way, sama kami ni Rina sa Tuantuan.. We haven’t blogged about it yet either :)
