Of Fine things & Jewelries

Even when I was a little girl, I already had a strong fascination with big, sparkly fine jewelry. Not the cheap, fancy ones mind you, but the ones bearing the 4C’s. My mom had a vast collection on nice ones in different colors, rhinestones, shapes & sizes. She never wore them though. Being a busy OB-Gyne, she couldn’t as she had to deliver babies & such. Takot pa sya sa hold-up. But once in a while we’d go over her treasure trove & I’d play with her jewelries. That was my happy place, the vault in her bank. πŸ˜›

4Cs-of-diamonds

Once in a while, she’d give me a bling or two & I’d be so happy already with a simple gold chain or a narrow ring. I’d collect them and plan out my JOTD (jewelry of the day) to go with my boring high school uniform. By college, I had a small but decent collection. Not ostentatious, but just rightΒ to keep me happy. All my nice pieces are actually from my mom. I don’t buy, but only because I can’t afford. I would in a heartbeat if I could. The price has jacked up since, she was right -as always.

My sentiments exactly.

One of the things my mom taught me is that the price of jewelry appreciates over time. And, if you have to leave in a hurry or are running across the state like La Imelda, you can bring your jewelries with you & it can set you up for life in a new country. Unlike lots & homes or other properties/assets which can be frozen & takes long to sell, great pieces of jewelry concealed & carried with you can always find its way through a black market & sold at a good price.

So that has always been my benchmark. Instead of bags, instead of shoes, instead of cars which by the way all depreciate its value over time & use, ang alahas, konting linis lang, mukhang bago na uli. Value of Gold & Diamond is on the rise, walang talo.

Some investment pieces that’s worth every penny pinching & belt tightening in order to save up. Diamonds and (Pearls) after all, are a girl’s best friend!Β πŸ˜‰

It’s best to invest in classic pieces. Yung hindi maborloloy. Studs & solitaires are always nice. And remember that bigger is always better hehe. Get a solitaire piece instead of a ring or earring with small clusters of diamonds if possible. And the simpler the design, the better because the piece will be classic, never fadish or outdated.

Along with diamonds, it is also always wise to invest in good pearls. I like my South Sea Pearls clean & simple. Studs & long strands. I can wear them with casual clothes, and on evenings out too. From day to night, it’s appropriate.

If you’re like me though & you want fun & colorful, one of a kind jewelry, then go for the semi-precious stones. May not be as good an investment, but hey, you deserve to be happy! πŸ˜‰

I have a fascination with big & chunky colorful estate pieces. It’s not for everybody though, so if you’re looking for investment & an easy sell, stick with the simpler & classic ones.

The other day, Kap & I were window-shopping in Greenbelt, konting lakad after a heavy Sunday brunch. I eyed something soooo very pretty in Gucci. Lumuwa na naman ang mata ko at nangati na naman ang mga palad ko.Β Lagot ka Kap. Kasalanan mo yan!

Such a lovely bracelet! <3 It goes so well with my aquamarine antique cocktail ring, don’t you think? πŸ˜‰ 89k. FTW!

Naku Kap. Sinasabi ko sayo.Β Panindigan mo yang pag-karay so sakin sa tindahan!

PS: Guys! The jewelries & the photos displayed above are NOT mine ha! They were taken off the net & collaged. How I wish sa akin, pero hindi po. πŸ™‚

Jewelry (window) shopping is so much fun. I’m a colored gemstone person and not much on diamond, can’t afford kasi. I love going to Chinatown because of all the jewelry stores there.

I’m starting my own collection, every birthday may 10-in-1 (10 occasions in 1 gift) sa akin si hubby. I told him mas makakamura at makakatipid siya kapag one gift each year compared to every occasion may gift na hindi naman puwedeng isanla. LOL

I hope you can show us your mom’s collection! Please! Please! Please!!!!!!! I bet mala-Madame Imelda!!!!OHHHHHH I can’t wait!!! Please??????????????????

    Hi Jane!
I love jewelry. I collect gold and stones but I seldom wear them., pag sinumpong lang and because of my work na rin.
Here’s my story: Decades ago, when I was still working in a Royal Airforce Base hospital in Saudi Arabia , naka on call ako when we received a call at 2 am, emergency daw. My Surgeon and I were rushed to a palace owned by a Prince ( Defense Minister, brother of the King ) My Surgeon fixed his Maryland bridge ( dental ) kasi may naipit na “tinga” ( IKR!) and very uncomfortable daw sya. We removed it ( sinungkit lang, hehe!) He was so nice to us. The following day, meron pumunta sa hospital na Guards from the Palace looking for me. Guess what? I was given a beautiful 24 Karat gold necklace with pendant na mabigat at malaki na parang agimat! ( haha!) My Surgeon was given a Rolex watch with diamonds. FTW!

2nd Story: In our hometown, ( year 2000 yata) I was asked by a close friend who works in the Bank kung gusto ko raw bumili ng bracelet na gold, I told her, let me see muna. The seller went to the Bank, showed me what she was selling – 18 karat gold from Japan, we call it the ” 8 cut ” design with a distinct mark of a “750 inside a triangle and a small box ” sa may lock. each has a weight of 20 – 30 grams. She told me, she used to work in Japan as an entertainer, naubos na raw ipon nya. Pinasama ko sa akin, in my cousin’s pawnshop to test the gold etc. Genuine naman. She sold it for Php 350. per gram. I bought all her 8 cut, Naubos pera ko. I still have them, I wear them minsan.
Last time I checked , 18 karat gold is Php 1,350. / gram. Tumubo na pera ko di ba? πŸ™‚

Ang haba ng kwento ko. Sorry. Thanks Jane!

Wow thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m happy when you guys really interact with me & I get to know about you as well. And hanep naman mag-regalo! Pero galante talaga sila diba. You are right, never magkamali sa pagbili ng gintonkasi every year tumataas ang value, as long as mataas ang karat ng gold that they buy. Maganda ang 14 kasi not so yellowish but no value. You have a great investment right there woohoo!! \m/

You are so correct, good investment ang gold. pwede isangla at ibenta. πŸ™‚ In case of emergency & I would need big amount of money, I would rather sell or pawn them kesa mangutang ako.
Usually, 14 karat ang gamit sa enggaste ng precious stones kasi it can hold them better.
Yes, maraming mabait na Saudis at galante sila. ? They usually give gold or money as gifts.
Btw, I really like your Chanel necklaces, ang ganda! ?
        Thanks again.

Bless your heart girl. This is my most favorite topic. I love, love, love, bling-blings! It all started when I was 17 years, I worked for my wealthy Aunt back there in Pinas and one of my chore was cleaning her golds and diamonds. I promised myself I would own a lot someday. My very first fine jewelry was a $4K engagement ring from my super wonderful kano honey (1976). Then I got one piece every Christmas and birthdays ($1K and up only). When I was working for the U S Air Force, I was stationed in Saudi I bought about a dozen 18K earings and bracelets which I gave away to my nieces. I bought one 22K bangle bracelet also in Saudi but I am very sad to say I lost it last August 3. Suerte yong nakatagpo dahil more than a thousand dollars iyon. Naiyak talaga ako. Once a month, I cleaned all my jewelries and I talked to them and thanked them they are mine. I went to New York 3 times and everytime, I spent my time on what they call jewelry miles- – thousands of jewelry shops – – kaloka talaga. On TV, there are 3 channels selling jewelries of all kinds and prices – – I love watching those. I am very, very grateful my dreams of having finer things in life got fulfilled. Have a great day!

Hi Thel! πŸ™‚ I am so happy to get such warm response. Thank yoi for also sharing your experience. We gals really need to save & invest for a rainy day & jewelries are our best & fastest solution to financial woes. Instead of clothes & shoes it’s much better to slurge on things that will give you a safe ROI. With love to you from the Phils mwah! :-*
