Birthday boy Richard Co a.k.a. Tales From The Tummy asked Kap & I to join him & Irene for lunch at Annam Noodle Bar. As I always say, we love eating with this couple coz they are adventurous. They’re willing to try ANYTHING & EVERYTHING served to them. At tulad namin, gow din sila wherever, whenever. With so many things to talk about under the sun, there is never a dull moment when sharing a meal with these 2. Kulang pa nga ang oras. Plus they really don’t eat much, so Kap & I get 75% share of whatever food we order hehe. ;))

His tagline Tales From The Tummy is akmang-akma. Richard is really a foodie with plenty of yummy stories to tell. As you can probably tell, he’s not too keen on having his photo taken -or displayed on the blog. Buti nalang he humored me for this one. Kaya ganyan, 1/2 covered. ;)) Ok na rin kalahati kesa wala!

Only on its 3rd day of operation when we visited the branch in Resorts World Manila, we were surprised to see the resto filled with hungry guests.

Annam Noodle Bar, by the way, is brought to you by Chef Nam of the popular NamNam Noodle Bar in Singapore – ImfortedAnnam Noodle Bar serves Pho & Banh Mi that transports you to the nostalgic streets of Vietnam.

The main branch is located in Eastwood. I’m glad there’s now one much closer to home. The girls have taken to Pho, so this is certainly good news. \m/

Annam Noodle Bar claims to have a NO MSG PHO-LOSOPHY and takes pride in the fact that 95% of the food on the menu does not contain Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), which is commonly used to enhance the overall flavor of food.

For me & Kap: Salted Caramel-Banana Iced Coffee & Pandan-Red Bean Iced Milk Tea. 150 php each.

Highly recommended, now my favorite at Annam Noodle Bar: This spicy Pomelo Salad 280 php, with prawns, chicken, and assorted crackers on the side. And because it was super spicy, I got to have this bowl all to myself, yay! Made me belly, belly happy indeed!

To balance it out, I suggest you pair the salad with Banh Bao Buns 250 php (caramelized pork belly, egg, cucumber, scallion) & your meal is off to a good start! Omnomnom.

Another fave, this Chili Lemongrass Chicken Banh Mi with egg omelette & chicken floss 230 php. Banh Mi is a Vietnamese term for bread, more specifically the French-inspired savory baguette.

Because Kap is a rice person, he skipped the Pho & went directly to this rice meal, new at Annam Noodle Bar. Crispy Fried Pork Chop with Steamed Egg Meatloaf 340 php.

Irene & I on the otherhand, were feeling the Vietnamese theme & had a bowl each of the Pho Vegetarian 270 php. Rice flour noodles with Bola-bola & leafy vegetables. Each bowl of Pho is packed with an intense broth boiled for at least 24 hours. And yes, you read it right. Vegetarian! Irene’s clean eating is finally rubbing off on me, teehee. #whatisgayagaya

Because the clear soup has a tendency to be bland even with said 24 hours, I put a generous dollop of Sriracha sauce on my broth. Pho is a popular street food in Vietnam & Vietnamese people usually consume it at any time of day. Hapi-hapi 24/7! ;))

Pho noodles are made from rice with the principal ingredients being rice flour and water. Thus, it has a thick, fat, sticky consistency.

Richard went with the dry Pho, the Bun Cha Hanoi 360 php. Brothless vermicelli with Pork slices & Mekong Prawn Roll that you dip into a sweet & sour dip for added taste. It kinda reminds me of atchara.

For dessert, we shared the Trio of crispy netted rolls 200 php (jackfruit, sweet potato, cassava), coconut sauce. I liked the jackfruit roll the best. Washed down with Vietnamese Coffee with Condensed Milk 120 php. Hot for me, cold for Irene. <3

Pho Lovers, one-stop shop ingredients also available at the store! Got my girls this Rice Noodle for lazy Pho nights at home. And of course, the secret weapon.. Sriracha sauce! <3

Must buy: NAMNAM’S PREMIUM PHAN THIET FISH SAUCE. Located in the Binh Thuan province of Vietnam, Phan Thiet is a coastal city that is famous for its fish sauce which is truly unique. The premium fish sauce can be identified by its clear brown color & a distinct sweet taste. Its complex flavors add a savoury umami note.
