Ang JUICER, bow!

After hearing several friends rave about the benefits of juicing their own veggie/fruit concoction, my Hunny finally bought me my very own juicer yesterday! :) I thought it would be super expensive so we’ve been putting it off for quite a while. But then, we were pleasantly surprised to find out it costs less than 2k! :) Or at least mine did.. don’t know about the other brands.

When you reach midlife, I guess you question your own mortality. Also, chronic illnesses like diabetes & hypertension begin to creep in, and you want to do everything in your power to stay healthy! For your family, if not for yourself.
My friend Judith (who’s also on the Cohen Diet) told me she’s been taking this combination. And gaya-gaya that I am haha, I also asked our cook to prepare this for me every morning as my breakfast (good luck to me!). My mom said not not take carrots everyday since it may cause carotenemia, so I told cook to add carrots only during M-W-Fs. I certainly don’t want to turn orange! ;P The one below doesn’t have carrots yet. Tomorrow I’ll take another picture of my juice with carrots.

It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I’m thinking of adding wheat grass too!

APPLES

The vitamin C found in apples ultimately protects genetic information of DNA and RNA, the transportation system of genetic material in cells. The high volume of antioxidants in vitamin C gives momentum to the regeneration of disease-fighting capabilities of other antioxidants, including vitamin E.


CELERY

Drink a serving of celery juice, and you will take in 16 percent of the vitamin C you need each day. The vitamin C in celery juice plays a critical role in bolstering your immune function as well as improving your body’s ability to heal wounds. Celery juice may protect your body from cancer. This vegetable is high in cancer-fighting compounds. The Park Ridge Cardiology website notes that these nutrients may prevent tumor cells from growing, detoxify cancer-causing particles in your body and lower your risk of cellular mutations. The physicians at this practice recommend drinking 10 oz. of celery juice twice per day for its anti-cancer benefits. Celery juice contains some compounds that may alleviate high blood pressure.


CARROTS

One cup of carrot juice contains more than 250 percent of your daily vitamin A, which plays a role in healing muscles after workouts, bone health and muscle growth. The vitamin C in carrot juice helps regulate blood sugar. In addition to promoting a healthy workout through these muscle and bone strengthening benefits, a cup of carrot juice is a great source of vitamins B1, B2 and B6 and promotes bone health and helps lower blood pressure. These vitamins are essential to breaking down glucose, fats and protein, thus increasing your ability to build muscle, boost your metabolism and lose weight. These B vitamins also lower stress and depression, both of which prevent weight loss at high levels.


AMPALAYA (bittergourd)

Bitter gourd has been noted to be a potent herbal medicine for a lot of ailments, particularly in treating diabetes. The Philippine variety is known for its more potent anti-diabetic components. This fruit is composed of a mixture of flavonoids and alkaloids which make the pancreas produce insulin that controls the blood sugar levels in diabetics. Aside from its touted medicinal value, it’s also a very wonderful source of vitamins A, B and C, iron, folic acid, phosphorous and calcium. 

You can make your own concoction. My friend Bambi uses the apple-carrot/cucumber-orange-pineapple combination. But since I have high blood sugar I prefer the veggie combination with apple for taste. Read this for guide & recipes & start living healthy! :)
